Just something thats been buggin me for a while, whatever happened to 2tv (or the beat box as it was formally known). It was'nt exactly cutting edge music tv but it was good hangover programming on a sunday morning, miles better than the sh**e known as top 30 hits.
Also when we are on the subject why did dave fanning stop doin the movie show cos that was pretty cool as well.

Dave Fanning has also been cut down to just an hour a night on the radio. Instead we get more of these eejits who love to talk with fake American accents and announce how you can win a "McDonalds Coca-Cola Eriksson T-68 phone with a years worth of phone credit. Text Vodafone 087......... to win." Come on, we want some substance on the radio. Sorry, I went off on a rant there.

Maybe Dave Fanning didn't like seeing his face on TV anymore?

Yeah 2TV was funny. Dave was great and was able to take the mickey out of the pop industry which was great. Nobody does else does this.

Also his interview on Saturday night live with Bono: Bono asks why he didn't fully get the Saturday night primetime slot? Good question Bono good question.

It used to be simulcast by 2FM too... which didn't really work for a lot of their segments...

And before it was 2tv it was the Beat Box, as presented at one stage by Ian Dempsey and at another by the incomparable Simon Young. :D

Maybe as part of RTÉ's cutbacks, Dave Fanning's pay has taken a hit - hence the sudden lack of him monopolising the airwaves as he used to...

Smiley Bulger used to be on the Beatbox, where has he gone?
And if one good thing has come of 2tv being axed, it's that bianca luxyx being off my screen! She hasn't a clue! Can't stand the woman

Barry Lang was the original presenter.

Then Peter Collins and Simon Young together, then Ian Dempsey, and finally Dave.

    Ah I remember him...

He was the one I originally collaborated with to start 2FM off broadcasting on the Internet back in 1996 when I was helping to run an Internet Café in Limerick.

I was in charge of that for a full year until they found someone else to do it and basically got us to 'cease and desist'.

We had a good relationship with them for the year, broadcasting them on the net for free and getting the occasional plug on their shows (mainly on Tony Fenton's Hotline - probably their most listened-to show at the time). It also helped generate a huge amount of extra hits to our site and therefore extra business for us. 2FM and us were, it seemed, great buddies... and we were writing and operating a central part of their (very busy) web site.

All of a sudden we got a fairly strongly worded email from them instructing us to remove all 2FM/RTÉ related files/information from our site immediately or potentially face legal action. To put it mildly, they could have been nicer/more polite about it. (Wish I still had that email, actually...!)

Anyway, Mr. Lang left 2FM to become a pilot, as far as I remember. Dunno what he's up to these days. Doubtless he wouldn't remember me ;)
