    Psst, don't look here
Dependent on a decent net connection (anything more than the bog standard 56k) I'd choose the internet every time.

I voted for TV, my life is transformed since I got Sky Digital in over the summer. Brillliant!!! :) Though I wouldn't be without the net, want the best of both worlds.

Id definitely have to say TV. I mean where would we be without it? You can only spend so much time on the net but it kind of gets boring. Its also more expensive....well if you're in Ireland anyway. For TV all you have is your licence once a year but with the net its every time you connect.
    :p

I bet youd get a less drastic internet curve if you advertised a phone in poll on the tv...

    A

in fairness, the group you are polling would be fairly biased towards the internet option :)

TV has been a pretty bad experience for me lately. Its not the quality of the programs..but the quality of the reception, the times shows are on. Digibox constantly shutting down for no apparent reason, any one else notice how compressed the signal has gotten lately? Maybe if they got rid of half the asian channels :|

IntArWeb interactivity = >. More control over the bandwidth...all that information coming down the satelite dish is wasted on 90% of ****e channels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,309 ✭✭✭✭Bard

Never said anything about being without one or the other... neither did I ask which is the *better* medium...

the question is - which one do you find more entertaining.

and btw, - episodes of South Park, Simpsons, etc. downloaded to your PC still count as TV really... (well for the purposes of this poll anyway)

TV is interesting, ... but the Intervarb has so many interesting uses ... not to mention that unlike TV there is always something you're interested in on.

Net is far better, there may be loads of adverts but if you don't wana watch them atleast you can turn them off

    Unlike TV :-D

Plus you can listen to any song you want at any time of the day or night on the net (same goes for most films)

With TV your stuck with the ****e the play on MTV most of the time and if you only have RTÉ your stuck with the even worse ****e on Top 30 Hits.

If divxs didn't exist, TV. But they do, so net wins.

    :)

I'd have to go for the interweb. I mean all tv is lately is sex, "when xxx goes bad" and young people going foreign, getting pissed and again having sex. Wheres the quality in that?

Internat, TV is getting worse imo, nothing good ever on

tinternet of course, this thread is a fine example of why, you can't really ressurect a 2 year old TV program!

and then there's all that porn that I keep hearing about but thus far have not browsed because of my Everest-like morals.

Intarweb. You have more freedom - you can make your own sites as well as looking at other people's plus you get to comment on things more.

And places like boards are highly entertaining at times!

I could live without telly and have done but life without the interweb thing is nearly unthinkable now (sad git!).

    Mike.

Sadly, I'm addicted to the internet and becoming allergic to the tv (there's just no interaction!).
That said, this online world is awfully good at stimulating thought while the other one sends the usual brain functions into hibernation.

That's how I comfort myself at least.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,012 ✭✭✭munkeehaven

as i have only the 4 regular tv channels i hardly ever watch telly and the best things are on usually around 2 or 3 am at night, like the foreign films or the quirky documentaries. as for the internet you could type in ''broccoli'' and get really interesting results.its a big big jungle out there....

TV, there's balls all interesting on the Internet anymore

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,811 ✭✭✭✭billy the squid

TV everything on the internet that was free now seems like you have to pay for it now or register for it. With TV you can watch a program without someone finding out what you had for breakfast that morning

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,003 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

It's got to be television. I mean I often use the Internet to ensure I can see more television programs so it's not the 'net I want in that case - it's TV. Consider the amount of TV shows I watch a week (whether on the TV or PC) currently:

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, Las Vegas, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order, Without A Trace (ok final episode this week), Cold Case (ditto), Curb Your Enthusiasm, One Tree Hill, Profiler (on PC), Ulysses 31 (on DVD), Transformers, Invader Zim...

Now compare it to the number of actual Internet things I do: boards.ie, occasional papers, IMDB, Dark horizons, chat...

BBC world / News 24 have "Click on line"
Browsing is good for the 90% of TV that is not concentrating on .

other than that internauts are go..

TV is sh*te. Its all American corporate junk, like Becker, Darma and Greg, . . . .and my all time favourite piece of comic genius, 'EVERYBODY loves Raymond'.

But at least at lot of people I know watch such mind numbing stuff as Corrie and Eastend miserable Londoners and whatever else is on to keep the poor souls hooked.

The sphincternet is good if ye have broadband, if ye don't, read a book or take up canoeing and enjoy life,

Quote from Vinnie Jones on Frank Skinner show:

"I don't allow my daughter to watch any soaps, she watches them in her friends house... . ."
