Listen everyone i am hoping somebody can come to my woes, i want to find out when we are going to recieve the top channels from the continent.

Tv5 was introduced two weeks ago which was a good thing to see a milestone in itself, it seems a long time coming sky would really benifit by introducing more foreign and european channels as the both the uk and ireland have a growing number of european citizens settling in either country, and have to resort to buying a analogue dish on the 19.2 degrees platform which dosen't deliver much apart from german channel is not the answer.

I myself am dutch and enjoy their good programming Rtl4, Rtl5, Kindernet, Veronica, these are top channels in my mind Rtl4 is great for light entertainment, Rtl5 is great for sport and especially for premiership football, also kindernet is fantastic for the kids. In saying that the spanish station tve and antenna are very good and also the italian station Raiuno.

These are great channels and should be introduced and if u had to subscribe for them i certainly would. Sky are introducing more and more entertainment channels such as: reality tv, CNX, and the recent announcement of E! entertainment channel from the us, People have had a guts full of these entertainment that are on a continous repeat system along with a whole host channels that repeat the same things day in day out.

The introduction of european programming would bring in culture and the european citizens would gain from their introduction.

    Big Willy

ps.(thanks for taking time out of your day to read this post)

All residents of Holland are entitled buy a special receiver, dish and card which will get the following channels on satellite (19.2 digital) for gratis (geen abbonement kosten!).

    NED 1, 2, 3
    RTL 4
    RTL 5
    NET 5
    SBS 6
    Yorin
    Veronica + KinderNet
    V8 + Fox Kids
    TMF 9
    Radio 1 - 5

Personally, I don't like RTL4, but everyone has their own taste I guess.

RAI Uno is available unscrambled on 19.2 digital.

There really isn't much chance of more European Broadcasters coming to the Astra 2 position simply because most dishes in Europe are pointing at the Astra 1 position or the Hotbirds. Also broadcasters can't openly sell subs within another broadcasters territory due to the old rights issue.
If you've family in the Netherlands, go for the option above.

Hmmm, I think someone misses the naughty late night programmes RTL used to show on Astra analogue!!!

(If so, that makes 2 of us, LOL!!)

Yes, certainly TV5 is a valuable addition to the BskyB basic plethora of (digital) channels and it certainly makes us realise what we are missing in no longer having TV5 on 'normal' (i.e. analogue) cable in Dublin, Galway and Waterford.

Interestingly it was Mr Murdoch who invited TV5 onto BskyB.... to add to the other two world tv channels MTV and CNN that were already there for many years

After EIGHT years of TV5 for EVERYONE (yes, these cities are 98% per cent cabled since 1970....why else did ntl move mountains to buy the Telecom Eireann/RTE owned Cablelink with over 400, 000 subscribers....) in these cities ntl decided that the English language our IrlBritishness needed to be reinforced and our European link had to be sidetracked onto digital....
ntl have succeeded in attracting only 2500 analogue captive customers since the launch of 'go-digital with ntl(Ireland)' fifteen months ago.

BskyB has 255,000 subscribers in Ireland......

Can anyone explain to me what logic there is in using TV5 to persuade customers to avail of digital services on ntl cable in Ireland? Surely the marketing strategy should have been/should be to put E4, MTV and SKY ONE exclusively in the digital package?Dublin keeps on howling that it is an European city so what is wrong with one channel being in French and the other fifteen being in the majority language, English?
Nobody has ever asked for the opposite.
Ironically ntl have forgotten to turn off Deutsche Welle on cable radio............

In the meantime......let BSkyB and Chorus (cable) continue with the good work of providing TV5 for ALL their subscribers...and allow the viewer to make the choice

There is nothing democratic in having to cough up for the Family Pack just so I can enjoy TV5. I wouldn't mind as much if it was just in the basic package, but they're trying to make it a premium channel, when in actual fact it's not got any premium content, it's just a mix of ordinary FTA French terrestrial programming.

Is this something to do with them not having to pay Sky for the usage of the transponder/EPG, much like the Irish terrestrial channels?
