    Racer
A free car simulation project, focusing on realism. It also focuses on supporting file formats that make it possible to add your own cars and tracks with relative ease (compared to commercial closed car sims).

its still in very early beta, but it is currently playable, i haven't tried the multiplayer yet but some of the car models available are rather tasty :)

the model of the lancer evo6 that comes with it is amazing. not to sure about the gameplay though. and the fact that i had to edit the controls manually through a text file was annoying.

Through a text file? Sounds helluva easier and userfriendlier than the option menus some developers have put in commercial games. I hate those trying-to-be-smart gimicky user interfaces a lot of games use.

    Racer

Step 1. Open DirtectInput Test program.

Step 2. Move axis you wish to map and note the max and minimum values.

Step 3. Open text file for generic input.

Step 4. Find the area for throttle, brake etc.

Step 5. manually enter the max and min values noted from earlier for throttle, brake etc.

Step 6. Save file after edits.

Step 7. Repeat until all functions are mapped.

    Grand Prix Legends

    Step 1. Select options, controls.

Step 2. Click each function you want to assign and move axis/press button.

Step 3. Repeat until all functions are mapped.

    Easier eh?

Hrm. I downloaded it, and played it. It seems uh, pretty bad. I don't know how the menu's supposed to work, but the keys didn't do anything, and there was no mouse cursor, but after clicking the mouse lots of times, it eventually decided to load up a level and let me "drive".... but this "driving" isn't like normal driving. Using the keyboard, it seemed to understeer immenseley, so i had to take every corner in 1st, but if i accelerated for more than about 2.5 seconds while turning, it would suddenly oversteer uncontrollably and the back end would spin out. Maybe this is because of the way they implemented digital control, but it's still sh!t. The car i was using (the default) looked a bit like a lancer, but it was just a load of big black and white triangles... *sigh*... yet another developer that doesn't bother supporting voodoo cards. Don't they know voodoo3s are still the 6th or 7th most popular graphics cards in use??
    bastids.

I didn't have the patience to try anything else and have deleted the game.
