Hotel in Amsterdam: Recommendations?

Friends of a friend going to Amsterdam in a week or two for 3 nights.

They're looking for a good (FOUR star) hotel. If they can get 3 nights in a top-class hotel with all the comforts that go with it for €400 or less, they'll be happy.

(I've been browsing through http://www.medialink.nl/amsterdam/ trying to find something)

    Anyone have any recommendations?

The Victoria is nice and just 2 minutes from Centraal Station

when you come out of the central station and walk up the main street and just before you come to Dam Square there is a great hotel on the right hand side.......
sorry Bard, that's no help but I can't remember the feckin' name - only that's it's surrounded by coffee shops and the red light district is five mins walk.......

    mmmmmmmmmmmm coffee shops....

Close proximity to the red light district is not a bonus for these people...

It's much the opposite in fact.

Then the Victoria would be ideal, it's not too close to R.L.D.

I've been to Amsterdam quite a bit and for me, this site is the best for hotel listings in the city.

    http://www.holland-hotels.com/listing.html

Not a great site design wise, but you can check availability and make reservation enquiries with prompt email responses.

Also, they may have to drop a star to get 3 nights for 400.

It was last weekend that they went so my query has been answered anyway. Thanks.
