Processor Problem

I have an Athlon 1800 processor - I think it operates at about 1.5GHz. Last night when I booted up as normal, the processor speed was quoted as 1145~MHz. The PC seemed slower than normal. I ran a Dxdiag which gave the same processor speed, 1145~MHz. I have only installed a new sound card and some minor s/w in recent weeks (Norton Anti-virus and Adobe Photoshop).

Is there a problem with my PC and how can I solve it??

Sounds like the FSB has gone from 133 to 100.
    11.2*133 = ~1500
    11.2*100 = ~1120

So that maybe thats after happening.

Check ya mobo manual about setting it to 133 again

Go into your bios and make sure your processor is set at 11.5*133=1530

Some mobos use dip switches but not as much as they used to.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try them this weekend.

More info - I had Windows XP running and changed to 2000 Professional a few weeks ago, but I'm sure the CPU was running at 1.5Ghz after that.

What does the squigle (~) mean though??
What would cause the FSB to change from 133 to 100??
What does the 11.5 stand for??

Maybe the bios battery died or you reset the bios

11.5 is the multiplier that decides the speed.
the higher the mulitplier the higher the speed.
