Never buy golf clubs on the web my friend - NEVER, especially if they are s/h. New ones can be ropey too as the shafts may not be what you expect... Better to go talk with your local Pro.

I'll take your word for it but have you had experience in this matter? (i.e. Is it your opinion or have you being screwed by websites selling clubs?)

I purchased 3 Callaway woods from the US last year, steelhead 2's with Regular flex shafts. By the time the final bill hit my CC it would have worked out pretty much the same as if I had gone to my club Pro. The shafts were fine with the exception of the 3 wood, it came in with a light flex!!! Had to do a bit of bartering with the Pro on that one, more money...... I also purchased off a punter selling privately on the web from Cork and what arrived was a set of Maxfli Revolution irons in crap order, the ad said a year old. SURE!

The best thing to do is go get yourself custom fit for a set of clubs, they might cost you a few quid more than buying standard clubs bit at least they will be built around your swing.

I have had good experiences with these guys , I have purchased a few iron sets and woods for friends with no problems ,they ship with Fedex its about $30 a set for shipping, takes about two days to get here. All the discriptions have been spot on
    http://www.dallasgolf.com/

They are an Ebay seller so there stuff is auctioned.

After you paid the shipping costs did you make a considerable saving on the product you purchased and remember was the product you bought standard catalogue product or was it clearance and therfor comparing to prices when current in Ireland would be unfair?

Most of the items are trade in or demo clubs with very little use.

One example of cost saving would be on two Orlimar hip steel woods ( 3 and 5 ) they were $110 and $120 each with shipping of $30 thats -- total $260. Here in Nevada Bobs they retail at over 300 euros each. Both were in almost new condition.

I also got a set of Adams irons for a friend recently ( the ones with the bi-matrix shafts) $280 all in. In Mcguirks they are over 800 euro.

You can still make savings on makes such as Ping and Callaway, not as much but still worth the effort.
I think the American golf buyer always wants the newest gear which accounts for the high turnover of equipment.

Yeah for sure. If its S/H stuff you require the American sites are the best, as you say its generally at most one or two generations old. Unlike our average Irish golfer who tends to hang on to the stuff and retire it to the garage after 25+ years of service!!
Still if its new gear I am getting I will ALWAYS go to my local Pro and get a custom fit. You have peace of mind and a place to go back to if it all goes horribly wrong and does not work. Not that it is me of course - its the club!!!!!! HA HA.....

I have used a great site in the UK to buy new and second hand golf equipment.

www.golfbidder.co.uk is unique in the way that they buy in the equipment and rate it rather than letting the original seller rate it. The shipping costs £15 so it is worthwhile to order a few clubs together rather than just buying a driver etc.

You can either bid on an item or choose to buy it at a set price - either way it still is better value than anything else I have seen in Ireland. there is a 7 day money back guarantee on everything you order.

So far myself and and friend have ordered one set of clubs and 2 drivers and everying arrived within 4 days. Very professional service.

Pity about the current exchange rate for buying in Engerland, Shopping from the states is much better at the moment due to the crap dollar.

My bro recently used e-bay to buy a new titliest driver, went to McGuirks tried it out there, then ordered the specs he wanted off the net, 3 days later and with a $150 extra in his pocket he is hitting his new club

Sorry to be so grumpy, but isn't there a Golfing forum where you can post this stuff. (Then us grumpy non-golfing types wouldn't have to get so grumpy and point out that...etc)

    :D
