Win2k on non backup PC

    Can you install win 2k or xp from a backup cd onto a different PC? I tried and it gets to a certin point and then says that this operating system was not designed for this pc, or something along those lines. I have all the official codes and stuff.

    Not sure about XP but if its a copy of the original Win2k cd then there shouldnt be a problem. As long as its licenced of course ;-)

    like trying to restore a gateway backup onto a dell pc for example..

    cant be done..
    windows 2000 restore disks specified that..
    a new security measue be built into restore disks..

    by using the bios check to specify that this is infact a certain chipset on the motherboard..

    problems have a risen in the past if the user has flashed the bios ..
    sorry man
    buy it brand new!
