It ain't technically game-related, but the charter says it's okay, and i'm thinking the people who populate this board will have a more in-depth knowledge than those on the sports board.

    Here goes.

I've heard works and factory engines mentioned in F1, as well as works teams mentioned in the World Rally Championship, and i'm just wondering, what exactly are they, and what are the effective differences?

Factory teams are set up and run by a car manufacturer. they generally have much better financial backing that a works team.

Works teams are teams that dont have direct manufacturer backing.

Ferarri, Toyota and Renault in f1 are factory teams whereas the likes of jordan and the rest are works. but in f1 there is direct input from the engine manufactrers to all teams.
