.....its time to dispair. Wicklow county county have again been shown to be no better than fly tipers and in fact alot worse as they use an illegal dump where they
tip side by side with black-market loads off the back of a lorry.

This from Irish Independent a little while back but now confimed.
Gardai question council staff over dumping

WICKLOW County Council confirmed last night that a number of workers across all sectors of its staff have been interviewed by gardai in connection with the investigation into illegal dumping in the county.

Council Director of Environmental Services, Michael Nicholson, yesterday confirmed that drivers, engineers, and outdoor staff were among the current and former employees in the West Wicklow area interviewed by both gardai and Council officials to see if they could provide information on illegal dumping.

John O'Reilly, currently under investigation in connection with illegal dumping in his quarry at Whitestown, claimed that council waste accounted for one-quarter of the waste. This has been rejected as "preposterous" by the council.

Mr O'Reilly had claimed that the council between 1979-2001 dumped some 25 loads per month. The Whitestown dump owner has also recently sent an invoice to the council for the disposal of 69,000 tonnes of waste at a cost of £1,000,623.

A garda spokesman confirmed that a number of people have already been interviewed as part of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation probe. .

With that in mind this looks pretty damn stupid, pathetic.

    Hardly surprising though.

Politcian and intellectual are mutually exclusive terms, that's how people in Wicklow County Council think that with supposed public accountability that it could be possible to bury this (no pun intended) and not get caught.
