I heard some mutterings that they've shipped it with a somehow "crippled" version of KDE... beyond that I don't know.

All I know for sure is that I can't get an IDE ZIP drive to work with RH7.3 at the moment, and it's driving me spare...

Don't know about RH7.3, but I was having a problem with an IDE zipdrive and Mandrake 8.3. The problem seemed to be devfs being too clever and deciding that the zipdrive was SCSI (it kept coming up as /dev/sda4 in /etc/fstab).

My not-so-elegant solution was to disable devfs by putting devfs=nomount into the boot options in /etc/lilo.conf...

I think what's happening to me is perhaps a little more extreme than that... I'm trying to rebuild a POS K6/2 machine for someone else, and when I stick in the ZIP drive it (secondary master -> hdc), well, can't see the hard disk any more (primary master -> hda). It can see the CD-ROM alright (primary slave -> hdb), so I'm dumbfounded...

    Thanks though...

Mandrake 9 came out over the weekend as well.

Looks a lot nicer than 8.3 (gnome 2) and seems a bit quicker.

Hi guys.. although not a comprehensive review of RedHat 8 it does look into the new style Bluecurve and has some screen shots as well as comparing it to Windows XP Here

I remember reading something about the IDE zip drive having some kind of faux-scsi stuff going on inside or something?? All I know is that my zip drive comes up as /dev/sd4 as well under Mandrake 8.2, but it works fine.

Yeah, it uses the ide-scsi driver.

Really? Zip100 or 250? Mine (zip100) would be set as /dev/hdd in the kernel messages, but then devfsd set it to /dev/sda. Both were listed in the Mandrake control panel. Anyway, it's working fine now.
