malta's nice - there's no shortage of stuff to do, and you can get around the island itself in about 3 hours on one of the insane buses. Be prepared for hills in Valetta (I mean HILLS). You can eat out well for about 15 lire a head, and the steak is great out there.

And the churches are spectacular. Local dirt villages have cathedrals.

Was there last year and had a great time...got a little worried on the plane when all when - at 28 - appeared to be youngest person on broad plane. However, beautiful restaurants particularly around Julian's Bay, good nightlife (try the Hilton for how the other half live!), Mdina and Mosta for must-see history, and hire a car for spectualar cliffs and access to sandy beaches (resort beaches generally aren't great) such as Little Armier Bay and Mellieha Bay. Bus service has to be seen to be believed...certainly quaint. Can honestly say one of the best, and bext value holidays have ever had.

Well just got back yesterday! had a great holiday, got to see all the island and got the ferry to gozo as well. your right mdf, the buss service has to be seen to be believed!! we hired a car for 2 days as well, drivers over there are lunitics, it certainly was an experience! st julians is the place to go out in. we went on an evening cruise on the fernandes in the evening an all package, all you can eat and drink for the evening! went swimming off the boat as well, won 2 bottles of wine cos i was the first one in swimming and i dived off the railings!! (i had'nt started drinking at that stage)
Valetta.... nice place but when you shopping and walking those hills fúck its a killer!!

I would deffinetly recommend malta to anyone. great island.

Going again to the little island next week.

Ive been before and had a good time, but spent most of it in bars and clubs. What would be a decent cultural tour that youd recommend?

Hire a car, it's cheap and easy, explore the island inland sea etc, and ruins, catacombs, churches dripping in gold, go to gozo Ġgantija Temples in Xagħra

The Medina, Rabat, Marsaxlokk fishing village, the Three Cities - Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua are worth a look as well as a trip to gozo and cominio

I was under the impression that Euro was the main currency of Malta. Is this incorrect?

Yes the Euro is the currency used. Check the date on the other post

Yep Euro. Whats more, the ATMs don't charge you to take your irish bank account cash out there.

All in all a great place.
