gang allegiance?

ive noticed this several times already. certain 'skangers' and 'scumbags' in dublin city have a small X tattooed on their left hand just above the index finger and the thumb. does that mean they've been in jail, belong to a gang, whatever??? they usually wear the usual casual clothes that you would associate with 'skangers' and 'scumbags'.

Either way they look stupid.
I've also seen a fair few with Swastikas tattooed on their hands.
I'd say most of it relates to prison stuff.

I was reading an interview with an American tattoo artist in the Source I think. And he was saying that a lot of Japaneese men ask for American gang tats, like Blood and Crip ones. But he wont do it for them.
Why would you want a gang tat if you're not in a gang? I mean, you could get a tattoo, not be in the gang and get killed because of it. Pretty stupid.
