Totally outclassed in second half by a team beaten 6-2 by Olympiacos.
    Very sad!,Veron ? what a waster!
Utd are nothing without Keane, but their fans will still say they are the best in the world.LOL LOL LOL LOL,they obviously never heard of Real Madrid?
They will win nothing again this year.Arsenal 1st,Liverpool 2nd in league who knows after that.
Giggs,Beckham look half the players they once were.
As for Kicky Butt? nuff said.

Hmm what match did you watch !?

FFS United were holding on in the second half, without the calming influence of John O'Shea, but they were defending a lead away from home against the team that was runners up last year in the champions league!

Giggs looked class all night, Van Nisteroy was laughing at the newspapers, (goal drought, what goal drought?) Barthez looked as sharp as i've ever seen, and Blanc/O'Shea were excellent.

And I'm not even a united fan!

(Though united are the feeder club for Blackburn .. :) eg Cole, Yorke, Gillespie, and even Berg came back!)

If I could play a ball like Veron did for the first goal during a ****e game I think I would be happy with that. Bear in mind Bayer have only ever been beaten twice at home in European competiton, and beat Liverpool there 4-2 last season. Also, as the scoreline will show, in the first half they were clearly the better team, but then their two most solid players on the pitch had to go off yet still they held on for a win.

Its a bit much saying United were lucky. Arent you being a tad biased ? Should i bother asking ?

Lol, they must be world beaters so.

What would that be the team that got to last years champions league final and finished second in the Bundesliga?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭BKtje

Man u did ride their luck at times in the second half. They were also playing horribly under constant german pressure and giving the ball away. To hang on tho for the win took guts, determination and a lot of luck.

Outclassed? i dont think so. Pegged back? yes.

That isnt the same team that played last year tho which was very noticeable.

We'll see what happens in the group.
did o'shea have an injury? or did ferguson just wanan give neville some match fitness?

Bayer, are a disaster this year. All their best players are gone with the exception of Lucio and Basturk.
Sitting close to bottom of Bundesliga.

They may have got to final last year, like i said not the same team!
Only their name is the same.
Van nistelroy was good last night but the rest were poor.
You all seem to think im A Liverpool fan????

The fact is Man u are a shadow of what they were in years gone by, which was a great side. They are certainly not best in England now by some distance, but the problem is their fans cannot admit to this.
Giles in tonights Herald said it all ," Beckham melted in second half"
    Giggs looked class all night

    Class at giving ball away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,081 ✭✭✭BKtje

    Nistlerooy was indead very good.
Beckham was extremely poor and Giggs wasnt that much better.
That isn't really that strange seeing as both their skills mainly lie in going forward and seeing that Man U were really under a lot of pressure its not surprising they played badly. (beckham especially).

I think its fairly clear that Arsenal are leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else in the premiership. Yes i am a Man U fan.

Fact also is that Manchester United were missing many of their key players, especially for the second half.

    Shut up.

Question is, given Leverkusen's sudden rise to eminence, and immediate descent into nothingness, coupled with Germany's unexpected appearance in the World Cup final, is Michael Ballack not actually, I daresay, rather good?

DO NOT abuse me or anybody like this again please!
I dont think my comments warrant a Shut up from you Pornapster.
    Grow up!!!

Yeah they were pretty lucky to get away with the win but then it could be argued that Uniteds near downfall had practicially been brought upon themselves as they clearly took their foot off the pedal for the entire second half letting Bayer get back into the game.

But to all the people citing this as a great victory for United over last seasons Champions League runners-up .... just check Bayers current position in the Bundesliga for an accurate measure of their quality.

    16th outta 18 i think before today.
They looked pretty ok tho on wednesday in the second half.
Everyone has their theory as to why ;)

Think of it this way, none of us United fans went and dedicated a thread to our victory over last years CL finalists did we?! No! We are happy with our win. A win is a win.

LOL... You sound like an American filing a lawsuit because someone sitting beside them smelt bad. It looks pathetic.

Maybe if you made a valid comment (your "opinion") I would not have said anything. It sounded alot like an ABU statement to me, now your backing up because you know I'm right. Ignorant statements like "United fans think theyre the best team in the world..." what proof do you have of that?! I do not think anything of the sort. You need to win things to be the best in the world.

How bout the "United won't win anything this year" comment? How do you make that out? Just because they've had a couple of bad results this season you think they won't win anything. People have been saying that for years and look how many times they have been proven wrong. I want facts, not bull.

    IN REPLY TO PORNAPSTER,
If i made a comment about M utd it wasnt directed at you personally but your " shut up" was directed to me.
Maybe you see something bad said about your beloved team it upsets you so much that you feel it was intended for you?
It certainly seems that way.And its quite sad actually.
If somebody critised my favourite team, player, singer, driver etc i would not go ranting on telling them to "shut up".

Be honest you were a bit harsh MR Porn.

    No.

Man Utd are not the team they once were, and will have yet another mediocre season, mark my words. Bar a select few, they are has-beens.

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators, Regional West Moderators Posts: 16,724 Mod ✭✭✭✭yop

I agree that they may not win anything this season, but it is only Oct and way to early to predict anything, I am sure you predicted every season for the last 5 that we would win nothing and we have proved this theory wrong so many times.

The has beens statement I 50/50 agree, there are still in a team of (their best 11) 3-4 has-beens, noteable that ape barthez, blanc, neville * 2, but I would not agree that anyone else is, veron is a bit shi** but he does not fit the team, and never will.

Still put a beat with the bookies and see if it comes in, worth a try anyway!!

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Van Nistelrooy, Solskjaer (sp?), Ferdinand, O'Shea, Silvestre and Keane are all good players.

Blanc is a donkey, the Neville brothers are useless, Barthez is well... dodgy. Veron is a muppet. Beckham is horribly overrated, Giggs is past his prime, Scholes and Butt aren't particularily special and Forlan? hahaha :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,472 ✭✭✭Sposs

    Giggs is past his prime,

He's 27 you dont hit your peak until your 28 and have you seen him lately? he's be by far Uniteds best player.

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 15,001 ✭✭✭✭Pepe LeFrits

Best at being a has-been, yeah.

Nothing to say about the rest of the has-beens then ? :)

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators, Regional West Moderators Posts: 16,724 Mod ✭✭✭✭yop

Agree with them apart from Scholes, Butt, Giggs.

    Beckhams blows hot and cold

Scholes and Butt aren't bad... Butt was very good during the world cup, but his play has dropped off again.
