as a sort of follow on from the favourite racing sim thread.

What is your favourite form of driving controls and why ?
    Joystick ? Wheel/pedals ? Joypad ? Keyboard ?

    Seriously now....is this rhetorical?
Gaming wheel and pedals is the only way for "serious" pc sims and just use the standard controllers for the consoles.
    :)

    Microsoft ForceFeedback Wheel & Pedals.....

.....when i first played GPL it was with a joystick, and altho fun, i couldn't really compete online, so i moved on. then a few months ago I purchased Nascar2002 (for the 43player online bit) but again found it difficult to drive steadily with the joystick, so i purchased the wheel & pedals, then i got the idea to GPL again, and now suddenly am playing nothing but GPL :)

    *sighs*
I cant seem to find XP drivers for my MS Sidewinder FF wheel.
    £150 sitting there gathering dust.:(

Atm tho, I've got a Ferrari wheel + pedals butt it needs one of my UsB ports which are all in use so I use my Logitech Wingman gamepad. [handy cos it's got a 2 player connection so I can add my Logitech Digital Gamepad for soccer ect]

Thrustmaster Ferrari Force feedback wheel and pedals.
Racing sims need a good wheel setup.Pads are arcadey console games.
Having said that my wheel works on my brothers PS2.
This is where the PS2 is leaving the other consoles in its wake.
Yes they have wheels but are poorly implemented.

Butcher is right ,the 42 guys in an online race with Nascar 2002 is something to behold.
Its certainly not like your typical split screen shabby affair.

A playstation dual shock. its without doubt the greatest joypad ever made. the dpad works for emulation, the two analogue sticks work for everything from fps to flight simulators. they also allow for analogue steering and accelerating/braking. and it will only set you back about €30 for the pad and adaptor.

I also have the gravis elimanator but i use my thrust master ferari modena wheel for racing. I cant use manual gears when i play with a pad, it doersent feel right. But with the wheel its fine!

yeah you cant beat the dual shock.

For racing games I use an anlogue stick to steer, i find it excellent.

However, in my experience of wheels and pedals, they were disasterous

When sim racers say wheel and pedals we dont mean flimsy setup that consoles seem to have.
Im talking about something which costs as much as a console.
Im talking about A serious sim wheel, not the ones you may see in Game etc!
Incredible build quality and totally designed with the PC in mind.
    Disaster ?
What wheel are you talking about?
    Has it got FF?
    Has it got Split Axis?
    How much did you pay?

I doubt very much your talking about any of the following:
    Thrustmaster FF ,
    Microsoft FF,
Logitech Wingman or Momo FF wheels.

LOL yep i agree, they havent got a clue what they are talking about.About 2 months ago a sales guy tried to tell my brother that a GF4 Mx 420 was the quickest card in the world.
Since i was outside talking to a friend on my mobile i wasnt there.
When i followed in we aproached the guy after bro filled me in.
LOL it was hilarious listening to him,This was his reply when i informed him of the GF4 TI range and the Radeon 9700.
Quote "The GF mx is the fastest card on earth, i know what im talking about ,i wouldnt work here if i didnt"
He went on to try to tell me that no GFX card GPU is clocked quicker than 150mhz.
No matter what i said he wouldnt listen, i think they honestly believe this too as there was no GF 4 TI cards to be seen.

Yeah that MOMO wheel looks awesome.

My prefered control method is using my hands, I've tried it with feet and while there was an initial improvement to start with my frag count was starting to suffer.
