Round the Bend with Doc Croc, my god the hillarity :D
Early 90's puppet show hosted by Doc Croc the editor of a commic, based in a sewer, host to such classic toons as:

Wee-man and the Masters of the Looniverse (fighting against their arch enemy, Skeleface).

Y-fronto and the Thunderpants (fighting against their arch enemy, Bum-ra).

    Pzycho the Magnificent.

Roger Prentice, the Apprentice Dentist in FALSE TEETH FROM BEYOND THE STARS.

False Teeth vs. The Atomic Banana.

    Wooly the Wondersheep.

    Transformabots ('Octopus Slime', anyone?).

    John Potato's Newsround

Flabba flabba flabba flabba flabba flabba flabba flabba FAT MAN!!!

A singing bucket of slop that would sing current chart hits, e.g. Swill Collins, Mudonna, and Stink.

    Nursery Crimes

    Bouncing Benny

Kenny McTickle And His Magic Kilt

The ninja turtles was my favourite cartoon back in the day.Loved that show:D I also remember watching James Bond Junior,a cartoon starring the nephew of James Bond senior:p
As for the puppet stuff I liked Bosco(how come Bosco had a boys name but a girls look and voice by the way? )the Den and Playdays(or was it called Playbus?) on the BBC.A bus would stop at a different character on its route every day(I loved the Y Bird one the best:) )
I used to hate it one day of the week however when theyd stop at the miming stop.Totally silent, just modern arty shi*e.
I also loved Kinght Rider and the A-Team.I remember being really pissed off about a decade ago when ITV replaced the A-Team repeats with the grossly inferior Airwolf.

    Fighting S.C.U.M. Great fun.

how come Bosco had a boys name but a girls look and voice by the way?

Probably for the same reasons Big Bird looks like a boy but walks and talks like a girl (Carol Spinney does Big Bird's voice so that explains the method if not the reason behind that). Or Tinky Winky's handbag. Or that episode of the Morbegs where Rossa "wanted to be Molly". Or Mopatop's feigned campness.

Hidden agenda, my lad, hidden agenda;)

Seriously, though, young boys have higher pitched voices on average than young girls. Look it up on that interweb thing. Bosco is only a wee young fella (of pretty much indeterminate sex in any case) so it's only natural. Like Elmo.

And Bosco's pretty much a "boy's name" only in Italy. Not in Montrose. He/it was named after his box, not a saint:D.

What I'd like to know is who got this added as an "If you liked Bosco" recommendation on IMDB:D. After all the trouble I went to to get Bosco added in the first place.

I thought Bosco was cool (sad I know) I even had a tape of him singing, and a mug that came with his easter egg! I used to torment my granny every day looking for egg boxes to make crocodiles or whatever he was making!

    Other favourites were

JEM: Truly outrageous, truly truly truly outrageous!!

He Man & She Ra, by the power of greyskull I HAVE THE POWER!

Diffrent Strokes, what u talking bout Willis

Muppet Babies.. theyre not quite a mop, and not quite a puppet...

There are some good "kids" shows out today that I must confess I watch, like Sabrina and the Amanda show

Ah, I remember HeMan! Twas great at the time. And similar one was Thundercats which, like Batman, had a big glowing icon in the air when there was trouble!

    Going further back, Magic Roundabout

And yeah, I remember Muppet Babies!! Used to be on Saturday mornings, IIRC !

I was an absolutely MASSIVE Sesame Street fan, into my mid 20s!!!! I watched it EVERY time it was on, from the "Good morning children" days when it used to open up UTV on a Saturday morning (after the SCARY-well it was to me as a 9 year old- start-up tune!) to the days when it went out at 1.00 p.m. on Channel 4. I remember going round the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum-this was less than 10 years ago, when I was 26- with an equally mad friend doing impersonations of Sesame Street characters, especially Bert and Ernie.

BTW- I know it isn't on UK terrestrial TV (just digital) but is Sesame Street still shown on RTE? If not, when did they stop showing it?

james bond junior was the best, now that really rocked and the tune to it was absolutely class, but me fave of all times has to be doug........hes the greatest and when him and porkchop, be having the adventure and pretendin to be quail man, its jus brilliant. i love doug!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭segadreamcast

Doug was superlative, but, in my opinion, lost the plot when it was sold to Disney. They made so many changes to a show that had a sound formula - and it failed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Do you remember the magic door in Bosco.
What did they used to say, "Knock, knock, open wide see whats on the other side, knock knock once more see what's behind the magic door"
Something like that, and it was nearly always a certain bet it would be the Zoo on the other side. :)

Oh God, do I remember that!!!!!

It was kinda like Spitting Image for the younger generation!! Alright let me think, Doc Croc, Luschetti Bruschetti (Lou Brusch for short! :p A starving-artist-rat-type-effort that would; on regular instances; have the life pummelled out of him by Doc Croc!) Jemmima Wellington Green (Some sort of "it girl" but she was a sewer-rat!) and Vince Vaudeville (I think?!?) The comic relief of the show with jokes soooooo bad that they added a new stink to the sewer!

Jesus, that's all based on memory....and I'm 21! God, I miss being young!!

Please tell me that someone other than me and Azezil remember this?

I'm off to find if anyone has given up their time to a web-site for this institute!!

Yeah thats the one! The guy in the stags outfit was called "Herne". He was supposed to be the God of Sherwood forest (or something like that), and Robin was supposed to be his son.

Remember Maid Marrion?? I thought she was such a babe! lol

    Anyone remember Terrahawks?

It was one of those puppet shows, a lá Thunderbirds, and in the end credits spheres would take on cubes in a game of Xs and Os. Sometimes the cubes would cheat! It was the only one of those puppet shows I could watch and it was great!

Round the Bend and Robin of Sherwood were also great. Remember the drums that used play before every action sequence?

Dum, da da da dum, da da da, dum...dum...

the best kids cartoon definatly was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,it was bloody class, and i only found out years later, that is was actually bleedin' well made right here in dublin!(I actually remember seeing an episode once where the turtles came to ireland on holiday and went down o'connel street and through stephens green,it was deadly)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,947 ✭✭✭BLITZ_Molloy

You just couldn't beat Danger Mouse. It sure beat having to watch Super Ted in gaelic. That was ****ing terrible. You could feel the education seeping into you despite your best efforts to vegitate.

Count Duckula was the business as well. If only because of the opening tune and the voice acting.

You'll never guess who was the voice of Shredder. Phill Banks from Fresh Prince in Bel Air. :)

Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors was f*cking brilliant. I loved that show so much. The vehicles were just awesome.

I hated some cartoons though such as Gravedale High, The Diplodoes (oh God), My Little Pony, Widget & Dino the Last Dinosaur. Crap compared to others.

Another one of my favourites which no one has mentioned yet is C.O.P.S. The theme tune is the type which just stays in your head. Does anyone remember this kick-ass cartoon?

    If you don't, here's a link to a site

I wonder can u find those eps online?

I also watched Mask, Centurions, and all those other quality cartoons.

I have nightmares about 'The shoe people'. That was crap!

http://www.wheelies.net has almost everything on Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors including eps & soundbytes.

Now that I think of it, here a few more shows I remember watching as a kid

    Dr. Snuggles
    The Gnomes
    The Smoggies
    Teddy Ruxpin
    Beverley Hills Teens

There also was this cartoon about a dog who owned a cadillac and hung out with other dogs. Does anyone remember this?

BTW Anyone remember "The Grusome Grannies of Gobshot Hall"?

Yeah I remember this one. :)

I think it was called "Rude Dog and the Dweebs" (?)
He was some breed of dog with a black eye and all the other dogs were in his gang...or something!!

Unless I'm mistaken, he used to start off the beginning credits with "Wrap your eyeballs around this...."

    Ahhh! The memories!

The other one you were on about..."The Grusome Grannies of Gobshot Hall" doesn't ring a bell. What channel was it on?

"The Grusome Grannies of Gobshot Hall" was on Sky 1 on Saturday mornings when they had a Adams Family like kids TV show on. They also had a talking moose head on the wall!

The show was about 3 grannies who lived in a big house who turned into crime fighting power ranger clones! Who would have believed it.
Also anyone remember that show on itv- Finders Keepers?

Yeah, I remember that show. It was presented by Art Attack's Neil Buchanon. I actually have an episode of it on tape.
