TV3 news today had CCTV footage from a mall in the US.

It showed a mother* bringing her child to the truck, looking around as the kid got in and then she proceeded to BEAT the living crap outta the poor child.

    * assumed it was the mother

She repeatly beat the child around the head to the extent the kid fell into the gap behind the front seat.
She stopped for a minute AND THEN started again.

Jesus Christ. What sort of ****ing person beats a defenceless child ffs?

I can stomach violent films ect butt seeing a young child [about 4 or so] being attacked like that, sent shivers through me.

Acts like these have no place ANYWHERE [along with woman beatings and more]

Afaik, the camera got the car plates so lets hope this sick bitch gets exactly what she ****ing deserves.

I did see it on TV3 last night and was totally disgusted. Have you never seen any of the footage of nannies in America that didn't know there were being watched? Some of that is ten times worse than that woman. I don't know how people can do that to an innocent child.

The worst thing I ever saw on tv though was a documentary about the militant Islam extremists in the North of Africa that briefly showed a decapitated child of about 3/4 in Algeria in the middle of a yard, with other bodies scattered here and there. I hope I never see anything like it every again. Did anyone else see it?

I once seen a amateur shot film of a female circumsision on this African satellite channel I was flicking through while bored.Naturally it didnt show the exact procedure but it showed the screams of the girl it was being done to.Ouch:(
As for the woman last I heard she was on the run with the kid but there was speculation she was turning herslef in soon.

Photos from the Nanking massacre are fairly shocking.

The woman in question whos' name is - Toogood (!)
has turned herself in with lawyer in tow. I'd like to hear the mitigating circumstances.

    Mike.

Wasn't there a follow up to that picture where the photographer tracked down the girl in that picture to see if she survived and what happened to her?

Yes that's right, and she was on tv today actually.

Yeah, Nanking is one of the most well-documented, appalling acts of the last couple of hundred years. Which isn't to say that it's the worst by any means; equally brutal massacares have taken place in almost every major war, and have generally been perpetrated on both sides.

Nanking and events like it show us in a very real, very up-close sort of way just how evil man can be when he's been brainwashed into thinking of other human beings as inferior - or so often, when he believes that his alone are "god's chosen people"...

    Could it be true?

Look at the end of the article. Says they are Irish Travellers.

I thought Americans were the only people to do bad things :-)

If she was born in America like I read, then she is American.

Ah but turnip we cant have it both ways!

After all the 'Irish' claim that many have used has been tenious at best, (aka Clinton Morrision).

Back to the subject, are amny peple here really shocked by that footage?

Do you doubt that 1000's of children suffer the same every single day here in our little corner of paradise?

Just last week on the 77 bus, i seen a girl kicked, bitten and cursed at by her junkie parents (i use the word loosely!) on a peak time crowded bus! Can you imagine what her home life is like, if thats what they do in public?

Hey, how about setting up a board that disregards all the world's major religions in one fell swoop? And on the topic of social brainwashing, don't kid yourself into thinking that you aren't an obvious product of your culture. Or that you aren't capable of great evils yourself.

Shinji is squeamish about tongue piercings ffs....I think he's fairly harmless :p

I agree that people are a product of their upbringing, that can't be disputed, but there is a world of difference between religion influencing your upbringing, and religion influencing the way you conduct your entire life. (uh-oh OT)

Hey, how about writing coherent sentences that make some god-damned sense?

Of course I am. Luckily, my culture didn't bring me up to believe that I'm chosen by god to be better than everyone else, and that if I go and kill some non-believers that's okay, and if I die doing so, well, my place in Heaven is guaranteed, so it's a win-win situation really!

I know you're desperate to defend your ludicrous belief system, but randomly waving your arms and jumping up and down when someone points out the sheer amount of evil that religion has brought into this world doesn't consitute a credible argument.

This is a big story in the US with a lot of focus on the "Irish Traveller" aspect.

It's got very little coverage on RTE for some reason. Possibly because it'll destroy the various pre-conceptions from the right-on types in Montrose?... ;)

Oh and Micro. what does that "Strangest Ireland.com article ever!" refer to? Just curious. (You need to be registered with Ireland.com to read it).

Hey Shinji. You managed to confuse, in just two posts, Islam with Judaism. And you didn't recognise that I was defending Judaism and not my own "ludicrous belief system". Impressive.

You think you don't have a belief system? Or is it just that yours is right and everyone else's (that involves a God) is wrong? You like attacking religion. What you should be attacking, in fact, is the actions of people who claim to be religious. It's obvious you know next to nothing about any of the world's major religions. Unless you were p|ssed when you typed your posts.

She said the couple are Irish Travelers, a somewhat mysterious, itinerant group that often works in the home repair trades

Sorry, that stuck me as funny.

Anyway, seeing as we've been talking about Nanking - what do people think of photographers of something so awful? Out to make a quick buck or recording something of great importance.

Now with the Vietnam war I go for the latter but with Sept 11? I'm thinking the former for a lot of the stuff I've seen.

I'd have utmost respect for war photographers. Did anyone see the film on James Nachtwey on c4 (called war photographer)? The things that man has photographed and the things he's only seen ... One of his shots was of a group of Indonesians is running down some poor man, part of some ethnic minority (it was in Jakarta I believe), and beating him to death. Toying with his life for half an hour or so. Nachtwey was there with them the whole time, at one point begging them for mercy on the man, that didn't cut any dice unfortunately. They had already killed in three others it seems.

He says he does it because:
It has occurred to me that if everyone could be there just once to see for themselves what white phosphorous does to the face of a child or what unspeakable pain is caused by the impact of a single bullet or how a jagged piece of shrapnel can rip someone's leg off - if everyone could be there to see for themselves the fear and the grief, just one time, then they would understand that nothing is worth letting things get to the point where that happens to even one person, let alone thousands.

Hopefully I will buy his book, but it is many many yoyos. Would you not say that if you are there at an event like Sept 11, with a camera (and perhaps the skill to use it ... you might be better at first aiding!), you have a duty to capture what is happening? I guess after the event you realise you've got something that people will pay a lot of money for (those brothers that were inside) should you cash in? If you don't need the money then no, but fvck! most people do!

I understand that there are also people that seek out that kind of thing, but I'd guess they are not so numerous and I don't think money is their motivation. You'd be better off taking snaps of Anna Kornikovas tits with your telephoto lens if you were in it for the cash!
