    Hi,
Should Hill 16 and the Nally Stand be Demolished and make thy Croker a 100,000 seater stadia, ? I think it should, last sunday week, the kilkenny v clare match was on, no way could i get tickets, i hear from mate of mine down in kerry, that they are having the same ticket woes, he says Kerry only got around 10,000 tickets and Armagh only got slightly more, where is all the tickets going to ??? i would love to go see the all-ireland final this weekend aswell when i went down to my local club, i was told that "I Might Aswell Have Angels Fly Out Of My A**e As Get Tickets" like what is bloody wrong ?? Croker can hold 80,000 and still tickets are scarce, i remember before i got tickets to the kerry v galway final 2 years ago, and croker only held 65,000 then, i am afraid that there is tickets ending up in the scum of the earth them ticket touts hands and they can go up to dublin and sell them tickets for anything up to €500 each, what a disgrace, i am fully in favour of knocking that useless hill 16, you never see the game right cause theres alway a 6" 5" person standing in front of you and if you go fo a piss your barrier place will be taken,

Knock the Hill and the nally and make croker a 100,000 stadia,

    Regards netwhizkid

They are getting demolished - where have you been living lad ??

They will become one large hill16 stretching from one side of the pitch to the other.

This has been planned from day 1.

Who do you think it's not going to be done ?

BTW, evening if the stadium held a million ppl, ticket touts would still get tickets - this is just simple fact, and as for the 10,000 quote, that sounds about right, as for the All-Ireland finals of both codes, tickets are allocated to every club in Ireland.

Pop quiz --- Anyone know why its called Hill 16 ?

But i cant back it up with facts ... was told by a wise old man once many moons ago .... well he had just pissed himself and couldnt remember his name so maybe he wasnt that wise ....

anyway .... apparantly the foundations to the hill are made from the rubble from buildings damaged in the 1916 rising.

anyone know if this is true ?

Yeh, thats what i heard too. Dunno if its true.

As to the topic. Stinkah is dead right, they are building a 'super hill' that will increase the capacity to about 90,000.

Just to correct you netwhizzkid, if they made it all seater, the capacity would be LESS than if there were terraces. (the attendance record in every stadia is higher when there were terraces)

Why bother spending a large amount of money increasing Croke Parks capacity when its only used for a few games a year? Surely it might be an idea to make it so that the GAA have to allow rugby / football games (ie the most popular games in the country) to be played there if they expect funding from the government.

    Hi,
If Croke Park is made into a super stadia, i don't think any other sports should be played there, let the f.a.i and irfu put in place their own facilitys, if they were as popular as they claim to be how come they don't have many at their games, and thus don't have a super stadia like the GAA, the f.a.i made a cock up listening to our great dictator bertie, and his coveted "Bowl" they should have built eircom park when they got the chance, their loss, not the GAA's job to come to their rescue,

da hill shud deinately be knocked down n a proper stand built in its place. ive heard dat they might build a "SUPER HILL" but dats just fukin ****. dat just means more space for over enthuasiastic dubs. let them sit down and let ireland have a world recognised and top quality stadium. it looks terrible at da minute when u look around and see three amazing stansd and then a fukin big gap at one end.

There are season ticket holders aswell, who are automatically alocated seats for every game. Thus less tickets in circulation.

Here's what Croker will look like once it's finished. Not quite the perfectly symetrical 100,000 seater super stadia you are proposing but certainly better looking than the piecemeal fashion in which Nally and Hill16 currently exist.

*Sigh* It appears we'll never have a major stadium this country without irregular terracing ... but then that's half the charm I suppose.

I thought the hill was protected because of it's "historic importance"? I dont think they're allowed knock it down, that's why they're just extending it....

I don't know why comments like these get to me, but they do - Hill16 was knocked down already since its erection, and yes, it was build from the rubble of the collapsed buildings of the rising, but what the hell has that got to do with anything ?? The old Hogan stand came all the way from Thurles.

The picture that pigman posted has been the plan of action since the beginning of the work in '94 ?? They haven't just decided to build stand by stand or anything.

Can you imagine if they went ahead and demolished the Nally and Hill16 this year ( the same year that the Hogan is nearing completion ) what the caffuffle would have been like.

It's been well planned out ( imo ) but for a few minor glitches that they are doing the major works in the off season and then opening the different sections bit by bit as it is safe to do so - I'll draw your attention to the fact that the Hogan stand is still not completed yet and was merely a single tier this time last year.

My advice would be to have a look at the Pigman's picture and get used to the fact that this is way the stadium was meant to be build when they started, and is being finished in this vain unless something else is stated.

    </end rant>

I think the hill is an institution and it will be a shame to see it go. However, as with all these things it is inevitable. lets look on the bright side,The Kop, The North Bank and The Stretford End managed to keep most of their atmosphere when they became all seater, hopefully the hill will to. I think the Hill in full voice during a Dublin match is a great sight to see. The Nally stand is just a waste of space at the minute so something should be done with it.

The reason they arent building the hill as high as the other stands has something to do with the traintrack running behind.
    So I heard.
Plus building over it would be too messy and hazardous.

They cant knock the hill beacuse they dont have the room to build anything else. so there are just going to do it up.

In years to come the might find away to develop it.

but with crowds falling at matches all across the country i cant see it happening yet.

The hill should stay. The athmosphere and craic on it is brillant.

From what I heard, the hill end cannot be built up like the others because of a train track (correct A$$A$$IN) and due to the fact it could block out sunlight from a lot of houses in the proximity.

If it could be built up I think the bottom end of it should remain a terrace and let the two above teirs be seated. There are rules and regulations for standing areas and I think they are trying to phase them out world wide but the hill is historic and should never be touched. I think even the expansion of it into the nally is a bad thing.

Also if it is left as a standing area it means that more tickets will be available as it will hold more.

thats just my point of view.
