i recently d/led the glib6c.rpm's for it, copied the .pak files and the like, but when i try to run it, it seg faults after init-ing /dev/dsp for it's use.

    Any Ideas?

make sure /dev/dsp is set as mode 666 (rw-rw-rw-).

Is your sound working normally, i.e. can you play sounds from x with no problems.

Try running with -nosound or -nocdaudio to see if it is just related to sound only.

Was it working before you upgraded glibc?

    ls -la /dev/dsp

first of all is it there? :)

second of all is it writeable by all users?

    if not chmod +w /dev/dsp.

and dont use quake2 as root i think. u have to be a non privelaged user if memory serves me correct.

    HTH,

    Paul

i already had /dev/dsp set to 666, but my linux distro came with glib6 as default...i'll try it without sound, (though sound through X, ogg123 / Xmms are working fine...)

i remember seeing somewhere that there's a common problem with quake2 sound under linux. You should do a google. My memory might be completely wrong, but it might be with the esound daemon. You're likely using that. Try turning it off and see if that helps.
