Naturism...

Hi there, I've just plucked up the courage to post this so bear with me.

For a long time, I've been wondering about becoming a naturist in public. For years now, I have been wandering about the house in the nude when nobody is around, and enjoying the feeling of no clothes on and letting my skin breathe. I've even gone for a skinny dip occasionally in the local river (which although exhilarating it was freeeeeeezin'!!) and thought about taking the next step, meeting up with likeminded people, on beaches or in pools etc, either here or abroad.

I'm just doing a heads-up, are there anyone else here on boards who are naturists, either shy of being "up front" with their nudity or even those who are practising naturists; what the situation is like here in Ireland, or have you gone nude on naturist beaches here or abroad, and generally what have your experiences of naturism been like, good or bad.

Here's to some healthy naked views. :)

Actually... I don't know whether I'm proud enough of my body to be a naturist but the idea certainly IS intriguing...

So... yeah.. should be interesting to see what options are available in Ireland.

well i admire your courage. i for one am way to ashamed of myself to do anything like that, its hard enough to even get me into a swimming suit, let alone lose everything!
i think you're going to have to go abroad to further indulge in this habit of yours, ireland's waaay to conservative(and cold!!) to have any naturist places(i'm probably wrong, but if there are they might not be very popular)
then again i have no idea what im talking about.
you could check online, see if there are any places in ireland where you could meet up with like-minded people. failing that, head for the sun(actually screw ireland just head for the sun anyway, you'll get a much nicer tan)

I think there's a nude beach somewhere in Kerry. I recall I was in Kerry once, and someone said there was a nude beach around. Never went to it, so I don't know if I was having the píss extracted from me, but it might be worth looking into. Sorry I know it doesn't really help.

and no, before anyone asks, I'm not a naturist. The sight of me with no clothes on would drive the government to make full body clothing mandatory ;)

I am in total agreement with getting your bits out.

Just make sure you wearing easy quick pull up tracky bottoms.

Its a bitch trying to run off while pulling your trousers or the like up.

Yes, I'm starting to think that with the Irish clime and winter setting in that starting to "hang out" is not such a top idea around here! Dr. Loon, I think Inch strand on the south coast of the Dingle peninsula (lovely double ententres there!) is a naturist beach, but as I understand it, there are no official naturist beaches in Ireland.

Thanks for the link, BuffyBot, but I don't find organised naturism my thing yet, especially if its a load of old wrinkly folk about :)

Has anyone any experience of nudity while on holiday abroad? Does anyone know of any beaches near Mediterranean resorts that are popular with Irish people?

I thought being a naturist is to walk around in your bare feet?

That's something I do at home most of the time.
I'd do it in town too, if no-one else wore shoes and I wasn't at risk of stepping in something/pricking myself with something()

Still, nude on my good man/woman/misc.

good luck with your efforts. Post pics of you going natural at places like the taj mahal, eiffel tower, boards.ie mainframe, and other historic sites and you'll be rewarded*

I personally wouldnt fancy walking around in the nip but i wouldnt mind a fuly clothed expedition to a nudist colony to watch the lesser covered ladies there:) Then again Im sure that the camp owners get pissed off with young lads showing up outside the gate with a pair of binoculars and a camera trying to get some **** photos.
If there are camps however wich tolerate the clothed types Id be in there in a flash:D (only just noticed but"in a flash"is yet another entrendre.Inch strand and the Dingle PENInSula are almost too weird to be true:D )

ive only got topless experience does that count? I dont have the best body in the world but im not too embarassed about showing it off (never a good combination). i went on a holiday with friends to corfu a while ago and i sunbathed topless where possible, including in a water park where it wasnt as big a deal as i thought it'd be. I was with a group of friends, most of whom werent comfortble enough to go topless themselves but didnt mind me and one or two others doing so. I probably wouldnt have a problem going full nude if everyone else was doing it.

We would like to try to suggest to all that there is really no problem being naked on a nude beach. Everyone else is naked there or at least if not naked then naked tolerant.
Our experience is that naturist people look at other naturist people sure, but only in the same way we would look at anyone else. You will be just another person, couple, family - out enjoying the beach with other naked people.
Even in Ireland when we go to the naturist tolerant bit of Donabate beach well up from the carpark, people who go walking past dont gauk or point at us. They just walk past and for all we know may not even know if we are naked.
The point we are trying to make is that being naked is not wrong or bad. It is a natural way to be, very enjoyable and relaxing, and it is especially nice when you can share that with your lover, spouse.
We are not saying that there are not people out there who wont gauk at us or you, what we are saying is that that is their problem not ours or yours. On the odd occassion it happens we just ignore them, and by and large they go away.
To us all human bodies are good and natural. Sure some may be more " beautiful " than others but all are good. Be proud of yourself and your bodies, and don't let people with the closed narrow minds tell you otherwise.
Next summer we hope to organise naturist days on both Donabate and Brittas South beaches. Details can be found here http://www.esatclear.ie/~irishnaturist/
    or here
    http://groups.msn.com/IrelandsNaturistForum
Everyone is welcome to come alone and at least give it one try to see if they like it.
Yes to naturism, yes to the wellbeing and confidence it brings to those who practice it.

    N+M

Maybe not on a nudist beach in LA, but in Europe I dont think it would be a problem.

I went to a nude beach in Croatia and it was pretty rad. Lots of ugly chicks around too so I wouldnt worry about being keepint it under control.

Apparently it's okay once you get used to being naked.

I'd love to try it, but Ireland is way too cold and conservative. Definitely something I'd consider if abroad, but I'd probably be out of place because I heard it's mostly over 40s do it or something.

My partner and i go regularly to Donabate and Brittas during the summer to do some nude sunbathing and we find it a great way to feel close to nature and the earth. Having the sun and the wind on your naked body and particularly when you are with the one you love gives you a wonderful and relaxing time spent together. It builds a relationship.
We would not consider ourselves of the beautiful set but we are at peace with our bodies, and we respect other peoples right to be naked if they wish. Everyone should at some stage in life try naturism and enjoy the feeling of natural wellbeing you can get from being naked in nature just as nature intended.
We are at times saddened that in Ireland there is still a sense of shame about the naked human body. In reality it is a beautiful and diverse thing. And again there is no shame in the naked human body.
Let the Government provide at least some designated Naturist beaches in Ireland and not keep us the only country in Europe without any, a real throwback to the bad old days of suppression of human development. In this way people who are (though we dont understand why) offended by the naked human form can then be aware that there is the posibility of at these sites of seeing naked people and keep their eyes and their minds tightly shut.

PS We doubt that you would have any trouble with erections or whatever, because the context is very different.

just got back from spain yesterday. I was working there for a week and had a day off. I went to the playa de nudista just outside Belemadena. Its handy to get to from any where on that side of Malaga. I dont consider myself to have a good body If fact the opposite but nudist beaches are not like beauty
parades. Its more about being comfortable with yourself naked in front of others. I brought a book with me to read and read it all in the six hours( the devinci code brilliant)i was there. I brought the book with me in case of problems controling my thoughts but nothing ever happened down below so to speak.I would be lying if i said that i never looked at some of the women there but you tend not to stare too long. All in all it was a good experience and one that i would try again in Donnabate if we ever get the weather

It is important that Irish people who would be naturists abroad should also be naturists at home.
We agree it can be sometimes cold during the summer in Ireland but there are still plenty of beautiful sunny days when it is a pleasure to be naked on an Irish beach.
What we need to do is to convince those who enjoyed the great natural feeling you get from being nude abroad to realise that you can get that same enjoyment here in Ireland if you choose to. All we need to do is to have a little confidence in ourselves and in our bodies. There is nothing shameful whatever in the naked human body.
The alternative is to hand over the right to practice naturism on our beaches to those who consider it " disgusting" and who want to keep Irish people, through repressive backward legislation in a human development timewarp.

The last post by Denissilver does cheer us up. Its a good post ;)

Loads of us here seem to be happy enough with our bodies to not overly worry about what people would think of us in public. There is the issue of course, that no-one likes to be the first person to make a move- I mean, I'd feel like a freak on the beach if I was the only one in the nip. And I'd have to agree with the previous poster- our climate isn't exactly conducive to naturism..... Its arctic here a lot of the time!!!!

I'm not the type of person who cares about sun tans and all the crap, but it is nice to be able to wander around in the nip and not give a damn what anyone else thinks. Perhaps hiding a few of the mirrors around the house might give folk an extra bit of self-confidence? Regardless of how we look, I think we are all very self critical.

Isn't there a nude swimming club that swim in the sea just off the 40-footer? They vie with the Christmas Day crowd in the news fair regularly. Brrrrrrrr!!!!!

    Disgusting.
If the good Lord wanted us to go around with no clothes on we'ed be born naked.
    Ermmm.. ;)

Maybe the Minister for Health would like to lead the nation in this healthy back to nature pursuit.

Imagine it... Arghh... I've gone blind.

You have just taken an interesting subject- naturism, and lowered it into a ageist slanging of middle aged men. It didn't add anything to the issue of naturism or express any decent point of view you may have about it. It is just sexist rubbish and is false.

You have we suppose the right to say what you want here but its kinda sad that that is all you can say about naturism, and apparently middle aged men. Sad

    :(

i remember going skinny dipping with two friends a few years ago when i was around 14/15...it was great because the beach was beautiful and it was evening so the sky was lovely and dusky in the twilight.....i felt really liberated and wasnt embarassed at all because it was with my friends and we felt comfortable with each other...i think a nudist beach would be a great idea..i guess that in this day and age because everything revolves around sex to the point of nonsense people think that its just an excuse for perverts/peepers to have a look at naked bodies...but we need to start learning that our bodies are more than just sexual objects, they can be spiritual too...

    Hi all,

Can we take it that this issue of naturism had calmed down a bit for the winter? We hope come the warmer weather next Summer, that naturism will again be a hot issue (excuse the pun).
Just to summarise our own position: not only should naturism not be feared, it should be given the warm suport of all individuals and groups who express themselves in favour of personal choice.
That is part of the essence of naturism, the freedom to choose to be naked as nature produced us, and to enjoy the feeling of warmth and wind on our bodies. It is especially enjoyable when done in company, either with friends or with strangers because naturism helps us develope a great respect for others.
Free from the tyranny of fashion and imposed "social customs" it allows us to socially integrate more naturally with others and simply be normal.
So heres to naturism and the hope that others will embrace and enjoy the practice in the Summer to come at home here in Ireland.

In Oz at the moment and have gone to a few of the nudist beaches, lady bay et cetera. It was the first time for me and I'd entertained fears about becoming arroused and embarressing myself. The sight of 70 year old men sitting on rocks with their legs wide open soon put paid to any carnal thoughts, probably a good thing.

To be honest, after a few minutes it was just like being on any other beach. It's hard to see what all the fuss is about.

We were just wondering if this topic on naturist beaches was still active. We had difficulty finding it on the personal issues threads.
Would like to see it remain active through the Summer when it might get going again.
