Since i installed SP1 for Xp pro yesterday i have got 3 errors in DirectX
    1st not worried about "
"DirectX Files Tab: The file dpnwsock.dll is missing!"

2nd too are bad real bad.
"Network Tab: The registry information for the service provider 'DirectPlay8 IPX Service Provider' is missing or damaged. You should reinstall DirectX.
The registry information for the service provider 'DirectPlay8 TCP/IP Service Provider' is missing or damaged. You should reinstall DirectX."

Simple Q how the hell do you reinstall DirectX 8.1 on XP??

    dxsetup isnt there.

Can it be done from the cd using recovery console??
*dont want to do that incase i lose other things.

Btw i have DSL and you can imagine what this is doing to my ping.

maybe i'm being simplistic , but can't you just install on top using a cover disc from a magazine ?

All the versions on cds and games are for Me/2000 etc:

As its built into XP as standard there is no "XP" version that i can find anywere.

best bet could be to install the dx9 beta 2, it runs out on october 30th, but there'll be another beta or a full version by then anyway.

    www.xp-corner.com had it

and no, there is no installer for directx in XP unfortunately, if it gets bugggered all u can do is reinstall XP

DX 9 full version is expected in January so im kinda screwed on that one.
There may be another beta after this one but i really dont want to have to wait that long.

General consensus in Goggling it and msft knowledge base is "im screwed"

Have to reinstall windows and the SP1.

Unless someone knows how to do this.

DirectX is built into XP it doesnt come in a dloadable form for XP ,its meshed within the structure of the OS (they need each other)

The main thing MSft said was total reinstall ,got the DDL sent so it worked fein.

I dloaded it 137mb admin version.
