I wonder what people think are the essentials for a semi-decent drinks cabinet..
    Eg
I would at the very least have
    1 Irish whickey
    1 scotch
    1 Good Gin
    1 Vodka
    1 Tequila
    1 Rum
    1 Port
    1 Vermouth

    etc etc

    Mixers

    Ginger
    Triple Sec
    Orange Juice
    Cranberry
    and so on..
Maybe people could give their own ideas..(maybe specific brands as well?)
and perhaps we could build up some essential lists tailored to Budget /tastes/seasons..

and Pleeeeeease don't say 3 cases of Bulmers or "redbull and vodka!!"...:)

    Hmmm... a drinks cabinet wouldn't last long in my company unfortunately... but if someone had it locked and kept the key from me, I'd insist they stock;

    Jack Daniels
Absolut Vodka - normal and Citron
    Tequila - Old Mecca
    Cork Dry Gin
    Sambuccha
    Baileys
    Irish Whiskey - Jamesons
Some Irish Mist'd be nice too!
Some Southern Comfert would go well there as well
    Bacardi
    Captain Morgans black rum
    A big case of Carlsberg

    Mixers and crap would be

    Orange Juice
    Lime Cordial
    Soda Water
    Coke
    Ginger Ale
    White and red lemonade
Cream and coffee for Irish coffee :)

Based on stuff that people I know drink (and that they'd like when they call):

    1 bottle Malibu
    1 bottle Powers
    1 bottle Glenfiddich
    1 bottle Glen Morangie
1 bottle Talisker if I'm feeling flush (yummy)
1 bottle vodka (good stuff, no crap - people can taste the difference)
1 bottle Jameson (tastes like paint stripper but some seem to like it)
    1 bottle Bushmills
    Baileys
    Bacardi

(and now stuff I don't have in the cupboard):
    Southern Comfort
Gin (CDG or Gordons - not the duty free stuff, the extra alcohol doesn't help)
    Dark Rum (pref Capt morgans)
Tequila (optional - will people actually drink it?)
    Beer etc:
    Carlsberg
Bud (hate the stuff myself but some don't)
    Proper Czech Bud (few bottles)
    Guinness
Murphy's (just 2-3 bottles for the fussy)
    Becks (case)
West Coast Cooler (there's always one:))
Few bottles of wine - probably the baby bottles
    Mixers

    Gordon's is a nice gin :)

    I'd add

    Chivas Regal
    Midleton rare
    Bailey's
    Cointreau
    Pernod/Ricard
    Malibu
    Schnapps - any flavour
Calvard - french version of poitin but it's made with apples.

onto the mixer's - every flavour of fruit syrup found on the continent esp mint to go with the pernod/ricard and the usual one's grenadine, blackcurrant, orange, lemon, lime.

Pineapple juice/oj/apple juice, cranberry, 7up, coke etc.

gonna need a big fridge to go with the cabinet :)

    Hmmm....let me see....

Here's what I try to have at a minumum (although truth be told, I have a far mroe extensive collection of whiskies). I've included my typical choices for many of these...

AFAIK, I have all of these at the mo, amongst others.

    1x Irish blended whiskey. (Jamesons)
1x Irish single malt, pref. peated. (Conemara)
1x Scottish single malt (Glendronach - aged in sherry casks....yummy)
    1x Islay single malt (Laphraoig)

1x Solera Brandy de Jerez (Gran Duque dAlba)
1x Cognac (anything bar Hennessy, and pref. not Remy)
    1x Armagnac

    1x vodka (Stoli or Absolut)
1x Gin (Gordon's, Bombay Sapphire, or Cork Dry)
1x Martini (blue martini, not red)
    1x Cointreau
    1x Kirsch
    1x Baileys
1x Kahlua (Tia Maria if stuck)
1x Green chartreuse (oh - I'm out of this - damn)
    1x Campari
    1x Tequila
1x Bacardi or other rum, maybe a dark rum too.
    1x dry sherry
    1x sweet sherry
    1x port
    1x calvados

Theres a ton of other stuff on the shelf and in the fridge at the mo (the rest of the whiskies, several grappas, some marc and other assorted things).

I'd also make sure to have red, white, and rose wine, a bottle of champagne (or brut, or sparkling white wine).

I dont tend to stock many mixers. OJ, tonic water, limes, and thats about it.

I should probably have JD and Southie on the shelf, but I dont drink them, and no guest has been stuck without them yet :)

    Strange you should mention these.

Chivas is absolute muck for me - wouldnt touch it given a choice.

Middleton Rare, on the other hand, I really like, but I dont think its good enough to merit its price-tag....so I only ever have it when someone is silly enough to buy me a pressie of it.

Of course, as with all drinks, taste is personal, so if CHivas tickles your fancy, then good for you. SOmeone has to keep them in business :)
