Well as a lot of simpsons fans might remember there was an episode of the show a few years ago called 'The Cartridge Family (5F01)'. What made this episode interesting is that it was never shown on Sky (due to liberal gun usage) and as a result most people had to either buy it on video or wait for BBC to show it in order to get a look at it.

But why am I telling you this? Well, because it's happened again! A new episode of the show called 'Weekend at Burnsie's (DABF11)' has been deemed slightly taboo and as such Sky One had considered not showing this episode at all. However a solution has been found and if you want to see this episode it will be on Sky One on October 6th at the rather unusual time of 9pm.

Due to it's content (at one point Homer apparently smokes a joint) DABF11 is unlikely to go into the general Sky One circulation schedule therefore making it likely that this will be the only chance you'll have to see it for quite some time.

    So don't say you weren't warned! :)

How stupid is that?Sky One like to bill themselves as the cheeky"lads"channel and yet they try hiding a cartoon with a minor drug reference?F*ck them is what i say.Thats one good thing about RTE-they have absoloutely no moral standing on any tv show unlike the UK.For example the great episode where Homers car is abandoned by Barney at the world trade center would NEVER get a showing on UKTV ever again. But Net 2 has the common sense to say"It was made before the event-no use trying to pretend the towers never existed"and so they showed it.
    Well done:)

yeah well done rte, i hate all this over sensitive 9/11 crap, like trying to change the name of the next lord of the rings film and stuff. Well done rte.

Oh and thanks pig man for the warning about that epp i`ll be sure to watch it so!

at least they're showing it and at a time that suits me better :) i am in total agreement about the difference in attitude between Irish and UK telly. that twin towers episode is hillarious and it's a shame that British telly ignore it

I saw that gun flavoured episode of the Simpsons when I was in the States. It's a good un. Homer starts his own NRA (Nachos Rifles Alcohol).

Strange though that Sky and Fox are part of the same group and Sky shun the more risque parts of the Simpsons.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll keep an eye out for it.
I've seen the 'homer gets a gun' one before, not sure what channel though.

    Classic Quote from that episode:
Gun salesman - "hey hey, be carefull"
    Homer - "I don't need to be carefull - I've got a gun!"

You could always download an episode or two if you've got the bandwidth/time to spare, most of them weigh in at about 50MB... although I'm not sure if it's a breach of copyright or not to do so... I wouldn't imagine it's any different than recording it off the TV and lending the tape to a friend... it's pretty far from broadcast quality anyway.
Maybe someone can shed some light on that, hmm?

I didnt like that gun episode that much. it just left a bitter taste in my mouth. what was the point of the anti gun storyline if marge turned around and kept the gun for her own use pah right wing rubbish. as for skys tendancy to cut programs look at the st patricks da one. during the party when everyone is drunk a british fish 'n' chip shop is bombed and everyone cheers. that is never shown on sky but rte and even more surprisingly bbc2 nothern ireland allow it to be shown. there is also the one where bart tries to jump the gorge but homer takes his place. after homer fall down the second time he get quite bloodied up, sky dont show this bit but cut to a shot of kids looking down the cliff face. www.snpp.com has quite a lot of stuff for the simpson fan plus a google search of almost every episode's outline.

there is also a link to a site about sky's butchering of family guy.

I think lines such as 'New York is a hellhole.', 'I don't want to spend one extra second in this urban death maze'
and especially 'They stick all the jerks in Tower one' had more to do with the withdrawal of that episode rather than merely the presence of the twin towers themselves.

But I agree with everyone that the show should remain uncut or be shown post-watershed. The fact of the matter is Sky just want a flexible version of the show that can be shown at 9am in the morning if they so choose. I don't think they are less liberal than RTE/BBC , they just have a different set of necessities to fulfil.

I don't think its a case of "well done RTE" rather they're too dumb to realise what theyre showing.

Btw, there was a clip of homer smoking the joint in todays new episode, the one everyones complaining about in the other thread ;]

I saw that guns one too on rte, just randomly shown, I was delighted to find a simpsons I haven't seen before, on a weeknight :D

Cheers for the info, have to mark it down.......

I noticed actually that Sky cut a lot of stuff, which only surfaced when BBC/RTE started showing it. It's still great to be watching an old episode and find a 4/5 second sequence I've never seen before :)

Yeah, I've heard "son of a b1tch" and "p1ssed off" on the Simpsons on Network 2. Surprised the hell out of me. :)

Y, quite strange that with the swearing and stuff. The U2 episode was on last night and I could have sworn that they said "Wan|<er" in it twice...

Since I have no life, this site has a list of censored episodes.

It was OK,not a brilliant one but had its moments.
The one on earlier was alot better, with Fat Tony calling in the New Jersey family, consisting of Johnny Tight Lips and some of the Soprano crew.:D
The marajuana ep was fairly average though I thought. It sort of stuck to one joke only.

i dont care what other ppl say i taught it was extra funny!!! otto living in the attic!! muahahahah!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,984 ✭✭✭Venom

I found the so called adult episode very poor. It just wasnt funny until the very end with the whole puppet gag. The rest of the show just seemed to be done for shock value.

The 6.30 episode was so much funnier.

i liked it. it gave me a few LOL moments

That episode (adult) was absolute RUBBISH.

It truly goes to show how fargone the Simpsons is... like I've been saying for the last two years, the end is in sight for this show now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,924 ✭✭✭✭BuffyBot

It was...er..ermmm... alright. Wasn't brilliant, wasn't bad either. Yeah I suppose they couldn't have shown Homer smoking joints on the earlier time slot though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭The Gopher

Yeah Otto and Homer in the attic was great but the weed plot was done a bit for shock value as previously said.
I find it suprising that a channel which cut a quote from Fat Tony to Rex Banner when banner orders him to stop selling illegal alcohol he says"Alright well stick to selling heroin"would allow an entire epsiode about drugs.
And which is more harmful to little kids-seeing a grown man somke hash or seeing a baby shoot people?
Personally I dont for a second think that its harmful to let a 5 year old see Maggie Simpson gun down a few people but in logical terms 5 year olds are more likely to have access to guns than hash.
    Eariler one was hilarious though:D

Best quote- Otto to Homer after he sees Marge
    "Dude,your moms hot!!!":D

Didn't see the late episode (sounds like I didn't miss much!) but I really liked the 6:30 episode. The Sopranos p*sstake at the end was very funny!

tonights episode was fairly good. i never expected the ending but my favourite piece was the 2 priests in the prison fighting each other :p and when Mr. Burns covered for Homer at the plant :p good stuff

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭The Gopher

    Yeah very good episode tonight
    "Er,father,were not Catholics"
"Oh Im sorry so.May your souls burn forever in hell"

    "Hey father,nice dress!"
"Ah go home and have sex with your wife!"

Also I was suprised that censorship mad Sky one let Marge say"I wonder how much he pissed away on this".They have cut far less minor stuff.Still,if this is their future attitude may it continue :)

To se some of the minor stuff they have previously cut click http://www.depro.co.uk/legacy/main11.html
    Some of it is disgraceful.
