Someone asked about this and I was curious myself so I did a quick check on the database...

the UTV thread is the third most viewed thread in the history of Boards.ie (the first being the campaign for BBC Radio on ICDG)

and the fifth most replied to thread (discounting threads where they were trying to force the reply count up).

Anecdotally, as far as I recall it was the fastest growing thread I've seen since the start of Boards.ie with 15 pages cropping up in under 36 hours roughly.

Of course, theres no *actual* interest in the Internet in Ireland. Nope. Not at all.

(of course if you sold pizza at 100 quid a slice, thered be no feckin interest in it either!)

Anyway, you have to remember too that most of the other users on Boards dont actually know about this yet as they might not come here... imagine the interest that would generate. And this is just one (albeit the biggest) community website in Ireland...

    *boggle*

You could post a board wide announcement and see what happens :)

Whole thing spread through word of mouth (and email) as well. We did not use our mailing list.

well, it doesnt suprise me at all. I got the utv mail early that day but because of work, i couldnt get web access (or even phone anyone) untill very late that night.
The first thing i did was check this forum, before mail or any other form of internet thingys :) I would guess that a lot of other ppl did the same as soon as they heard.

UTV are going to advertise with us I think, so that will do. I'm not going to start to favour one company over another, otherwise Boards.ie wouldnt be here to have had this discussion in the first place...

We're offering them a very decent rate though :):)

Can I suggest that IOFFL send a mailshot to the members announcing the developments with UTV and EsatBT, and the recent meetings that IOFFL have been at. It's been quite busy lately, and I'd imagine that the majority of members do not even read this forum!

What struck me about the recent threads here, is the apparant big increase in "newbies" showing up.

We will have a mail shot out shortly. We just wanted to get details of this weeks meetings (and product releases!) covered in it also.

Dev, can you let us know how many individual users posted and/or viewed - I remember you doing an exercise something like this for me before.

Martin, good to see you back around... where's your old login though? If you forgot the password or wanted a name change mail me (link below my sig).

Dangger, I'll look into it. Shouldnt be too hard I just need to look at the database and write some SQL.

    Martin ... where's your old login ... ?

He changed it when he resigned as Chairman to avoid confusion.

I just need to look at the database and write some SQL.
SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT username) FROM post WHERE threadid=63228

Never been totally away, just that business pressures have forced me into an observer role rather than an active participant :(

Used to be o_donnel_abu. As Adam pointed out, I changed it to avoid confusion when I stood down as Chairman

thanks (smartey SQL person :p )

Total individual accounts that posted to that thread: 125

Total views 14975 (we cant break that down into users/ips as we just dont store every ip that looks at every thread. we'd need a database the size of the Sun for that level of detail!

It is 8 days old and has 14500 views. 8 days is 11500 minutes so it was viewed more then once every minute for 8 days 24/7.
    Wow. Thats exposure :)

35 people rated it at what appears to be a unanimous 5 stars.

Cant really tell you much more then that....

not a product endorsement or anything, but its the least we could do to acknowledge both their achievements and their groundbreaking (hates that pseudo-word) involvement here.
