I would like to propose a new community group on boards.ie dealing with the subject of motor insurance. I am an active member of MIJAG and we need a channel to reach those who are concerned about the high cost of motor insurance in Ireland, especially the young and boards.ie seems like an ideal place to do that.
I would hope that the forum would take the shape of another Irelandoffline community group which is a fabulous forum and a credit to those who participate in it.

I intend to link to this new motor insurance forum from www.mijag.com.

The forum would develop a sense of community to help MIJAG grow but wouldn't be overly political although strategy would be amongst the items that could possibly be discussed just as it is on irelandoffline's forum. Hopefully it would serve as a self-help group where people can help one another to insure their cars affordably. Hopefully it will attract people with specialist knowledge in their respective field as happens in the IrelandOffline forum and on forum sites like askaboutmoney.com who have expertise they wish to share e.g. Directing people towards companies that cover a particular risk.

I don't think the motors forum can be extended to adequatley address the issue of crippling motor insurance costs in Ireland as it is a place where car lovers hang out. I envision the motor insurance forum would be primarily concerned with trying to help others to get affordable motor insurance.

Obviously the forum would need some degree of moderation as we don't need muppets and any threads suggesting anything remotely illegal would need to be deleted.

    So, who is in favour?

    I heartily endorse this request.

Ireland Offline could never have sustained the interest it has without boards.ie. MIJAG is another worthy cause and a cummunity board here could help as a focal/rallying point.

I dunno, as a fairly regualar poster on motors, I can tell you that insurance is a major topic of conversation. There is a lot of advice given on the subject too. So from that point of view I would say why bother splitting the small amount of traffic motors gets ovetrr two groups.

But then isn't MIJAG more of an advoocacy group (hard to know when the site isn't built), so possibly a sticky link back to MIJAG might be more appropriate.

    As I said, I dunno.

yes, I'd see this more as in the IOFFL mould then a board to discuss Motor Insurance.

I'm more then happy to support this.

I'll create it later in the day.

Thats been created now... its under the Community->Public area.

The direct link to it is here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=229

Personally I dont drive but I wish you success in your campaign.

Mailman, I've set you up as Moderator, if you go to
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/mod
you will get all the necessary options to kick trouble makers off the board.

I've set it as being a Public forum which I presume is what you wanted (otherwise you have to grant people access individually).

    Have fun.

    DeV.

    Thanks for backing the group.

I'll try to be a good and fair moderator.
I think I'll put some ground rules up as a sticky a-la Irelandoffline to reduce muppetry.

Now to start a new motor insurance related thread.
