In Flames or Dark Tranquility?

Which you prefare? and why?
(this thread is starting for pornapster and angelwhore to stop them polluting the 'what song you listing to now' thread )

I always prefared In Flames, probably because I listened to them and found Dark Tranquility through the 'swedish metal' site, I just think In Flames have better guitaring in the bulk of their music. Dark Tranquility have the better vocalist, but in the style of metal guitars are more important than vocals IMO. An advantage with Dark Tranquility however is they have a lot of diffrent songs to their usual (In Flames have a good load aswell, but not as many), songs like therein are not what you expect from Dark Tranquility, but is a bloody great song

Just listen to The Gallery. ****ing astounding guitar work.

But seeing as IF once had the same vocalist, is it fair to say that DT have the better vocalist?
Mikael is definetly better than Anders.

As far as guitaring goes im talking about in general
I havent got around to getting the new in flames stuff tho, I've heard nothing good, so it may be a bit of a bleak future for in flames, we shall see tho

heh... I could see this topic coming up somewhere along the line.

I prefer In Flames because they have a stunning melody in all of their songs. They play the type of songs that makes you just want to get up and play. All of their songs fit exactly as they should. Not even Metallica can do it the way In Flames write their music.

I don't like Dark Tranquillity as much because they are not as melodic as In Flames. They use too many of those shred type riffs (I don't know if there is a name for it or not), which I am not a fan of.

The vocals were quite similar but now after listening to Clayman by In Flames, I think that Anders is coming into a league of his own because he uses vocals that can fit the song perfectly. That is why I think In Flames are the ultimate melodic metal band. And I like melodic metal.

Anders voice may suit the music very well, but he still isnt a great singer
Mikael is a better singer all round, especially in DTs slower stuff.

Another reason I'd prefer DT is that they're far more experimental. They're not afraid to use synth, and try for something new and interesting. They've far more depth in that respect.

And Anders' work on Clayman was just too bunged up with effects to be anywhere near as good as Mikael's.

OK pornapster = all for in flames, angelwhore = all for DT, and then im in the middle but prefareing in flames......this will be an interesting arguement

I always found in flames 'heavier' than DT, but your right on the experimental bit, in flames have some diffrent stuff aswell tho.

we have some of the stuff from the minds i. Insanities Crescendo and The Minds Eye. i must admit, they are pretty damn good (i say we, as me and pugs are bros and share a music collection ) im not so sure about DT over IF, i do like quite a few of DTs songs, i just like more of IFs im not saying either are better, they are both absolutely fantastic bands, i just prefer IF more

Well its a tight call but Id have to say In Flames, theyre more my style of group tbh. On another note Me and Pornapster actually agreeing on something :eek:

That seems to be said alot recently, maybe one day dark tranquility will have more great songs than in flames......... unlikely tho
