I don't like the man, he's done and said a lot of STUPID things over the past few months. But he has an affect on any team he plays with, ppl are afraid to let him down. I'm pretty sure that defence wouldn't have made those mistakes had he been playing :|

for christ sake, we dont know if we would have lost. if keane had been playing he couldve snapped his ankle with the first tackle he got into. its a completely idiotic question! its not like we never dropped points with him in the team before anyway

I believe he would have made a huge difference but i dont think we woulda won. Maybe we woulda drawn.
The poll doesnt allow much does it?
Lots of things coulda happened, people are just speculating.
A draw is a lot more likely than a win.

I voted no. Not sure why seeing as neither option is what i believe. too late now.

    This poll is pointless.

No I think the question is valid...but nobody is supposed to ask it that's the thing. I seriously doubt we could have done much worse with Roy, or done much worse no matter which members of the squad we're picked.

See the thing is that this really isn't going to go away, ever...even though Keane is recovering from an operation and couldn't have played anyway....this is going to continue, people are going to say the same after every game we lose...or draw....not so much after we win but it's still going to be there. I think that McCarthy will resign soon, he realises he's in a no-win situation

    Absolutely... YES.

    Ireland were disorganised and confused.

They'd have been more-so with Keane on the team.

[edit] ack! ffs... your question in the thread subject title and your question in the poll title are different... I voted YES by accident... I meant that YES, we'd have been beaten.

I'm probably not the only one to have accidentally voted the wrong way.

    Oh for goodness sake!

Would we have lost if Stan Staunton had been running the back four?

Or if Liam Brady was still in midfield?

Or if big Niall was still leading the line?

They've all GONE, people. They ain't coming back.

Thanks for the memories, pick it up and move on.

    Need some creativity in midfield.

Kilbane, God bless him, has a willing heart but no skill.

Holland and Kinsella at their best are fetchers and carriers. Not creative types.

McAteer back to his bad old self.

    Soooo.......

Pray that McPhail and Healy get to play regularly wherever they are.
Look at Reid or Kelly for the right of midfield.
Play Duff on the left and a big man up front with Robbie.

Twat all members of the defence about the head until they wise up. Harte we all know is a dead loss but what was wrong with Finnan? Look to fast track O'Shea into the big time.

There's talent there. Just pray that Mick has the balls to use it.

we might still have lost, but we wouldn't have looked like a pub team in defeat.

FFS the question in the subject is different to the one in your post!

I voted yes we would have drawn/beaten russian, with the best Irishman currently playing soccer in the team, and leading the team.

    X

    Simple answer....

    HELL NO!

Micks job hangs in the balence!

Also you reversed the question from the post to the poll :( so idoits like me end up voting wrong.

    Bad taste that man!

The rift is bigger than just between Keane and McCarthy - it would take more than just McCarthy to be gone for Keane to come back. Half the existing squad probably wouldn't play with him and it could only be bad for the team to have him back now.

Face it, it's a plain and simple fact. Roy Keane is NOT coming back to play international football for the Republic of Ireland. His international career effectively ended when he flew home from Saipan.

Therefore this argument, and any argument about "would we have done better with him" is utterly redundant.

Having him on the team is not an option.

He's gone. For good. End of story.

    Move on.

Course we would have won,Roy would never had let Gary breen Matt hoilland Kevin Kilbane and the rest of them away with a performance like that.

Mind you... according to an article in the Evening Herald today...:
Secret talks between FAI officials and Roy Keane's solicitor have taken place in a bid to end the feud which is wreaking havok on Irish soccer.

The hope is that a face-saving deal can be struck which will allow the former Irish captain to return to Mick McCarthy's squad.

After Saturday's Moscow shambles, some within the FAI are convinced that Keane must be brought back into the fold.

This is despite the official line from the Association which continues to publicly support McCarthy.

    ...
    ..
    ...

However, recent interviews by Keane appear to suggest a softening in attitude towards his former Irish team mates.

    ...
    ..
    ...

One phone call could heal the biggest rift in the history of Irish football and put Roy Keane back where he belongs, wearing the Irish captains armband.

After Saturday's Moscow mauling, McCarthy is left with little choice. One more performance like that would see him get his marching orders from the FAI.

Movement in the background would suggest that Keane could be brought back in with or without McCarthy's assent.

He is a proud man and right now he is angry and hurt that the whole Keane saga will not go away.

But everyone who supports Irish football can see that the only way to resolve the current impasse is for McCarthy to bury his pride and pick up the phone.

Put it up to him, Mick!

A brilliant piece of informed, impartial journalism to be sure to be sure ;)

sure keane said all along hed he retiring after the world cup, its now after the world cup so its now at the stage he wouldnt be playing for us regardless of what happened in saipan. another reason the arguement is redundant

    Again...

When I was a little boy we had a dog.
    It liked to chase lorries.
    One day it caught one.
    Cue heartbreak for little boy.
'Will we ever see Rover again, Mammy? Will we? Will we?'
    'No son'
    Waaaiiiilllll.

I was only seven but I survived.
Keane is gone. Never to return. Your tears are genuine, guys and girls, but so were mine.
Move on. There will be other players. There are some already.

This Arguement wont become redundant as long as the only world class player ireland has contuines to play for his Club and Not his country.
