BF 1942 sound fixes?

Is there any way to fix the crappy sounds on BF 1942? there's the **** mickey mouse sounds and the weapon sounds. I know the mickey mouse sounds arn't supposed to be that but the weapon sounds? are they supposed to sound really ****?
