I think UTV's new television advert is getting its first airing tonight.

    Its GGGGGGGGGrrrrreeeeeeaaaaattt!!

Its a computer mouse (with tiger stripes - to match the model who was present at the press launch;) ) bouncing around in a locked cage with a voice over asking - ".....have you been crawling around looking for a connection......limited in your Internet use ....." etc. as the mouse morphs into a snail, then back into a tiger and breaks free!

Finally, a UTV Internet access product advertised on the tv that we can subscribe to here.

    Anyone seen it yet?

Has anyone signed up for it yet ? Do you know if it accepts ISDN ?

Is it worth waiting a month to see what else comes onto the market?

Yes, yes, yes to all of the above.

Don't UTV Internet get free or cut-price advertising on UTV :P? You guys really should be saturating the channel with advertisements - otherwise there could be trouble ahead... Joe Punter doesn't know much about this.

I heard the radio advert this evening.

Ten out of ten for the use of the term "break free". In case people aren't aware, DeVore received a solicitors letter from Eircom partly tackling the use of "Break Free"* in an advert for boards.ie beer night. Could be a day out in court for UTV yet. If so I bags the front seat with my "Break Free with UTV" banner

*I'm reasonably sure that like me, the court would find that "break free" is not a catchphrase that Eircom can lay claim to, particularly as they use it only to advertise wireless phones, unlike UTV who are applying it to the Internet. In the same way in the US that Apple Corps (Beatles) weren't successful in suing Steve Jobs over calling his nice new IT firm "Apple Computer"

Can you imagine the publicity if it does end up in court.
UTV is a TV station which is watched at least regularly by 40% of viewers, has lots of resources to match eircon in any courtroom, reporting on the daily news(throw in a chatshow as well !) to a few million viewers about a certain court case regarding a 'flat-rate' service. !!

EircoN would not want to inadvertently publicise a 'flat-rate' offer, would they ? :):)

    Pubicity would be infinite :D:D

    Lads..

I must say...I like the feel of this... (no, not my skimpy Red PVC skirt!) .... We are definately getting somewhere in our quest for cheap, unmetered Internet access......all thanks to UTV!

Bring on the court case....bring on the cameras and attention...

And tonights star-studded Tag-team match isssssssssss.........

DeVore + UTV v's Eircon 'the Encumbered' + Phantom Government

    Ding Ding....rounds 1's away....

DeVore sidesteps a vicous swipe from a Solictor dressed in a mouse's costume. The Liar, erm Lawyer is send flying into the public audience and get pummelled to death with unused DSL modem-wielding customers. Devore tags UTV.

UTV jumps into the ring and eyes up his remaining opponent... A large akward slow-moving mass of corporate dung with no listening ability. Ericon grins and tries to charge UTV 3.58 Cent to get into the ring.

UTV, preempting Eircon's move, grabs the remains of the battered solictor from the cheering audience and rockets it back straight into Eircon's bloated stomach. Eircon, in a desperate move, starts selling parts of its own body, in order to gain strength and retaliate.

Eircon rushes towards UTV. UTV starts rushing towards Eircon...
UTV, being more flexible, somersaults over Eircon and hits Eircon into the back of its head with a double pole-axe kick. Eircon goes down...

UTV inspects the dead Eircon. He sees a little door at the back of Eircons cranium. Its got a handle. UTV opens it. There lies a dead body of a certain Mr. Haughey.

The crowd look up in amazement... Finally they now know their country is free from red tape, back handers, corrupt policians, and greedy people in power. The sun shines through the ripped canvas of the Bertie Bowl.......Its a good day in Ireland for Ireland.....

UTV & DeVore walk off clapping each other in the back along a narrow corridor through the swarms of ex-Eircon peons who are crying from the extreme delight of what was achieved on this day..

Basically, dont be afraid of those Idiots in Eircon / Errorcom and best of luck in the venture...

    James...

If you want to get some quick insight into Eircom's advertising standards, check out the September bulletin from the Advertising Standards Authority - 6 out of 23 complaints (i.e. 26%) relate to Eircom ad's and 5 out of the 6 complaints were upheld - at least in part - Impressive huh?

Great way to get the word out - 104 is currently Dublin's number one station in terms of listeners, and this is where UTV need to get their product known well... to Mr. and Ms. Joe Bloggs.

Anyway, if you've heard it - what do you think :D ? Personally I enjoyed it more than their TV advert... anyway I feel a smile coming on now - so I shall leave.
