TV aerial - recommendations?

Getting in Sky tomorrow after finally getting rid of Chorus (cheers)

For the last week I've been using a set of rabbits ears I got in Argos for about 13 euro. Reception is terrible. (by "terrible" I eman the reception is very grainy on RTE1 and TV3 even after messing around with the aerial for a good ten minutes, though TG4 is slightly better - no N2 at all). Plus when the PC is on (which is pretty much all the time) reception gets even worse (as in "no reception whatever").

So (and I don't know if this is possible), I'm looking for an indoor TV aerial that works well in poor reception areas and which won't have me twisting antennas like a monkey every time I want to change the channel from RTE to TV3

(obviously I'm looking for this so that I can watch TV (sky) while taping something else on the terrestrial channels)

Reception is poor as even though I'm on the second floor, I can't quite see over the buildings on any side and I'm only about 200 metres from Eircom's massive Limerick tower, which is directly southeast from me, so presumably it's not actually blocking the signal from the RTE transmitter (which I assume is at Bird Hill to the north east)

Any ideas guys? If it's not actually possible I'll happily give up the ghost but I'd like to try a few things out so I don't actually have to watch Emmerdale every night (I'm getting to know the names of the characters now - it's quite worrying:rolleyes: )

All help gratefully accepted etc. - model numbers or names would be good.

It might be worth trying the Philips aerial from Argos (Page 652). It's €39.99. Bring back the first aerial and get a refund. Even if the Philips one doesn't work Argos will refund your money within 16 days if you are not happy with the product.

if you had chorus cable and not MMDS
then you might be able to get a signal for the rte's from the cable

i have this set up although the rte1 signal is pretty bad, everything is in black and white

So if you had cable you are sorted.

If you had MMDS, then there should be a chorus aerial up on the roof. If you replace this with a standard VHF or UHF (not sure what frequencies they use in Limerick) aerial you should get a perfect picture. You can use the existing wire from the Chorus aerial.

Thanks guys - I'll try that Argos aeriel.

Cable connectino won't work as I saw the nice man come to disconnect it. I could reconnect it with a ladder I suppose (the Chorus repeater (or whatever it is) for the street is on my building) but I'd like to do that as a last resort took me long enough to get rid of Chorus, don't want to give them any excuse for ever seeing me again.

If you suffer poor reception no indoor aerial will help matters.

I've never been to Limerick, but I do know that the RTÉ transposer is on Woodcock hill.

    So I've discovered. Nothing doing.

I guess I'll have to put up herself watching two soaps a night and try to keep her away from Emmerdale and Fair City:D

    Thanks for the help guys
