Everybody's got them... some make us more proud than others...

What's your claim to fame?... - is there something that you were first in the world to do? Something you invented? Something popular that you started?

    Just curious :)

e.g.: (I'm pretty sure) I was the first person to broadcast a G.A.A. match live over the Internet. It was Limerick Vs. Clare and it was broadcast (via Clare FM) live from the gaelic grounds on the Ennis Road in Limerick in 1996.

I do believe I was the very first person to consider the joining of sweetcorn to tuna. Now everyone does it! :D

[EDIT: I was also the first person to write the ringtone version of Postman Pat correctly. All of the others were just wrong. Mine is right :D]

I was the first person to arrange a MIDI version of Elvis Costello's song "Pump it up"

Oh and to create a midi version of Britney Spears' "Hit me baby one more time" done as a classical piece.
    ;)

just call me midi of the road.

I appeared on Pats chat as a squeaky little runt at the ripe old age of 10 along with a few mates from school :)

Kids ask me to sign their skateboards/t-shirts for them, a lot of them already know me by name.....

Oh and I have a section in a new Irish Skateboarding video called "9 Miles to Ireland" wazaaaaaaaa or something :p

It's called a "discussion forum", littletinyman. If you don't want to use littletinyfingers to type out what littletinybrain can actually come up with and have a discussion then why do you bother?

I was curious about the topic and so I posed the question. Don't need your kind of pointless reaction, thanks.

What is this? Free-for-all flame Bard day?

    Give it a rest, ffs.

So how about having some discussion then instead of a series of posts listing how great one is. *yawn*

Bard is a cnut, Bard is a cnut :D

Anyway back on topic. Claim to fame, /meh was the poster child for foster families way back when. Everybody else is just a poor imitation.

Also scored with a volley from the edge of my own box last week in soccer, keeper came up to take a free, one of their boys headed it on and I cleared it ( I mean, spotted the keeper off his line and blasted a shot over his head) with a swinging right boot. Am sure I am the first in the Mayo League to have done so, if not in the world :D

Did I mention Bard is a Cnut :D

    very funny, t4tf :p

And Kaids... wrong idea... something you were 'first in the world' or 'first in Ireland' or whatever to do - or a 'claim to fame' may not necessarily be something to be proud of. I'm not asking people to tell me how great they are.

    They just will, anyway ;)

Everyone in my school knows me as "The Guy Who Dressed Up As A Woman. Repeatedly."

Or, to be really anal, I found a neat way of putting in a diamond design while laying cobble driveways.

I think I was the first to use the phrase "Jesus on a bycycle" after seeing a guy who looked incredibly like Jesus cycle past me on my way home from school long ago.

Also invented the term "Puckosexual" for people that fancy me. I wanted a Puckosexual board if there was going to be a homosexual board.

Also climed down a bridge and walked along the bed of the river Suir. But that was a long time ago when I was a little shit.

Ah c'mon... the term "Christ on a Bike!!!" has been around for yeeeeeears! Various incarnations of it, such as "Jesus Christ on a piece of toast!" and "Jesus Bicycling Christ!" have been used for quite some time, particularly in the books of Diana Gabaldon.

( ah crap, I'm being pedantic there... heh )

    LOL... brilliant :)

I might as well throw my oar (back) in ...

I was the one who started RTÉ Radio 2FM broadcasting on the web... way back in October 1996. [ more ]

Oh ... and I think I was the first web developer in Ireland to get a threatening letter from Barney the Dinosaur's lawyers (for this)- although I could be wrong on that count ;)

(Jesus, there's no escape with archive.org around!!!)

    Erm...
Sugg's from Madness gave me 50p when I was, like, one year old after he met my mother outside Sainsbury's.

I was part of a band for "The Adventure" across from where I used to live in London. Was their KeyBoard player until I moved over here and lost interest in music altogether.

Founded VAR (LOL, such a fame inducing achievement) and we are the longest running clan in Irish gaming(?) to date.

Was known as "The English Guy" In the Tech once I moved over, which made me an idolised, pin-up, successful bully magnet.

There are others, but they're rather pathetic really, and not worth mentioning.

Sorry Rope... I think you mean 'Co-Founded' VAR.

But as for me personally, my claims to fame would be...

I'm in Cradle Of Filth's DVD.
Very briefly, you can see me.

And I've also wrote a script that's going to be made into a short film over in England.
Not gonna say much tho, as it's not gonna be finished for some time.
But Film4 are funding it. Part of an unknown talent type thing.
Some guys I know over the net are making the film for this, and asked if they could use one of my little stories.

I'm fairly sure I'm going to be spottable (I got into the centre moshpit) when last years Slaine is broadcast on telly. According to Hotpress it's to be aired "soon". Sadly they've also scotched rumours of a DVD of the event.

I'd love to be on a DVD, that would RAWK.

Otherwise I've done work for various famous people, which I'm not going to name, and got a medal when I was 12 for catching my friend when he fell from a tree.

there are lots of older clans.
DF, HIV and doozer from q2 days, im sure there are remanents of q1 clans still going.

    VAR?

    who the fúck are they?

  • Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 4,600 CMod ✭✭✭✭RopeDrink

Apparantly HIV have broken up once, or maybe twice. (Correct meh if Im wrong)
If that is the case, and after remembering that we've never split, would indicate that we are infact the longest running.

Personally I couldn't give a flying toss, but we've been around for yonks, and to have CO-Founded the clan, to me, is an achievement. VAR was probably the only reason I ever found the net / found boards / found mIRC / found Boards Drinkies / Acid-Reign, my first novel (List goes on).

Wether or not you care, that is an achievement to me.

I was one of the first people in Ireland to go through a delicate laser eye surgery to burn away muscles from the sides of my eyes,

...the operation was to correct my position of my head.....my eyes were defaultly in the right hand side corner of the eye socket which meant that when i was looking forward my head was pointing slightly up and 60 degrees left of centre....It was giving my neck a huge strain and dirty looks from other class mates....

...The doctors had to wait until my eyes were mature enough to do the surgery...they didnt tell me that my eyesight would be blurry for a few days after the operation.....I awoke thinking they had botched the job but a helpful nurse found me colapsed in the corridor trying to get my bearings....

The surgery worked but it wasnt an exact fix...I now look a little to the right every now and then but it is a vast improvement!
