I'm at college up in Letterkenny in Donegal doing Computers and we get to do Cisco for free if we want to. The Lecturer told us that to do the course on its own costs 4 grand...i'm not back at college till week after this so i'll look into it then, its the best thing to have at the moment tho if you want work at the networking end of things going by the head of the IT department in Quinn Direct.

Horizon , for one, do Cisco training. Its generally very expensive though - perhaps a couple of grand to to the CCNA course.

CCNA isn't so difficult that a course is necessary though. You could just buy the Official Cisco Book. There is a sample chapter on that site too, so you can get an idea of how hard you might find it.

Its worth remembering that there's not a whole lot of work out there for CCNAs there days either. Best of luck with it though, whatever route you take.

Ashfield College, Templeogue in Dublin are doin most of the Cisco Programs Now.

Got a Leaflet Through the Door. http://www.ashfield-college.com/

I'm will Be Starting Semester 2 of the CCNA in a Few Weeks.. Also Getting it for Free in College (:D ) It supposedly will add an Extra 6 grand onto your Yearly Salary: Dont Really Know if thats True or Not, but its a Great Qualification to Have.

Best of luck With It. ;)

You can do the CISCO qualifications in ITB. (Institute of Technology Blanchardstown). I just finished a cert and am doing a diploma and we do it as part of the course.

You can get training at Global Knowledge: http://www.globalknowledge.ie

The price is the main problem! It's over €2300 for each week long course. So to do the CCNP for example you'd need to do five exams + courses and that would come to about €12,000.

You could just buy the books from Amazon, the official Cisco Press books cover exactly what's on the courses.

    CCNA:

    CCNP:
    Routing: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1587200015
    Switching: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1587200007
    Remote Access: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1587200031

You can also book time on cisco racks online at http://www.fatkid.com

Nice to have, its not a golden ticket to a huge salary though ;)

Its a nice frill on the cv, look decent if you did it during college. Not likely to make your salary much bigger, but could be the deciding factor in you or someone else getting a job; or you keeping your job etc. It has decent recognition as a certificate (ie not mickey mouse cert anyone can buy). Definitely do it if its cheap, but don't pay more than a couple of hundred for it. You can do the CCNA part-time (and very slowly, one class a week) in Derry Tech for 90 sterling a semester off the street, I'm sure there must be other similar courses in Dublin, Cork, Galway etc.
