For the best movie shootouts im tied on The matrix the scene where they enter the lobby,and Heat with Robert de niro and Al Pacino (sp)?,they have to be two of the best i have seen.

Anyone got any favorites?

Young Guns 1 at the end,the shoot out in the house is also worth a mention.

Oh yes! The Killer has some fantastic shootouts.
And the bankjob scene in Heat! Fantastic.

Now, not exactly brilliant, but extremely stylish is the part in Three Kings where you see the bullets entering the peeps.

Gotta agree with AngelWhore about Three Kings.

Not exactly a classic shootout but some excellent bullet effects.
Haven't seen that flick in ages but might just go and get it now.

I always preferred the two other main set pieces:

The Tea House

&

The Warehouse (my favourite)

Much more self contained. I love that kind of choreographed violence.

The last half hour of Hard Bolied, they were shooting nuns and cripples for christ's sake, no one was spared and political correctness took a bullet to the head in the opening seconds.

gotta agree with clintons cat. Scarface is definetly a classic shootout. Also what about a honourary mention of butch cassidy and the sundance kid. I don't know if it fully qualifies. Joesy whales as well. also what about bonnie and clyde

Gotta Be Heat followed closely in Second By Val Kilmer shooting the crap outta anything moving in Tombstone. Still think he was the Besty Doc H yet.

Yeah, he was indeed brilliant.
But my favorite part was where he just winks at yer man and it all goes to complete ****e!

Other great ones are...
Saving Private Ryan.
The close stand-off between the Americans and the Germans where they're screaming at each other!
Enemy At The Gates.
Some of the most tense scenes I've seen in a film. The part where Jude Law takes out the German soldiers at the start, and basically any scene with Ed Harris in it. Pure ****ing brilliance.

And lastly... Not sure why I've not mentioned it before.
ANY scene in LEON.

I have to say the other Clint Eastwood film (the one with Angel Eyes in it aswell) I think It was A FEW DOLLARS MORE, where the Mexican kills AE's g/f and takes his pocket watch and when you open it , it plays a song and at the end of the song you draw

The shoot out from A Fist full of Dollars when Clint teachs some yokels not to laugh at his mule is way cool.

Have to agree with Celtic Tiger the shootout at the end of LA Confidential is absolutley fantastic. White and Exley holed up in the something or other Motel with an army of goons outside. Ithaca pumps and six shooters abound.
