sorry, I forgot to mention that I am not using the 900 Euro Zyxel DSL router that eircom offers. I simple feel it is a bit to expansive.
So what I am looking for is a router that can do the same but doesnt cost 900 Euro.

if you do a search on this board you will find a lot of people who have asked the same Q.
you do not have too buy the router from eicom there is a number of diff one's you can buy,
    What your router/modem must have
PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE, RFC 2516)
    G.dmt (ITU G.992.1)

the Zyxel router can be got for about €350
you can get cheeper modems and routers but
it has a 4 port switch and a number of other things.
you need to deside what you need and want your router to do.
