feckin slave masters

    sorry if this has been posted before.
    i''ve been helping a mate put new cd & cd-r drives in his fairly old pc. (p166)
    for some reason the cd drive is recognised fine in windows, but not in any of the cd burning software i installed.
    i'm not sure if this is a problem with windoze 95 (first edition, prolly upgrade that to 98se for him soon) or the way i set up the jumpers...
    the top drive (52x memorex cdrom) is master, the bottom drive is the slave.
    this is all fine & dandy, but the only way the ide cable would go is into the slave first, then the master...
    anyone know wtf is going on???
