winXP internet connection sharing prob

When i have the network cable in my machine, my internet connections slow down. The machine with the internet connection is xp while the other machines on the lan are 2000. I also tried to use a non windows internet connection sharing program but this doesnt work. the network itself works fine but i cannot share the internet connection so i have to unplay the net cable every time i want to go on the internet.
