has anyone else been recieving spam on their mobiles?
i've got a few that go something like: "sum1 likez joo, 2 find out hu it is dial blablabla."
they normally come from a 5 digit number, and theres a po box address at the bottom of the message (in london of all places!)
i've had a few different ones over the last couple of weeks, i cant remember what they said tho, i just deleted them straight away.

don't know why i'm posting this, just felt like a bit of a rant:rolleyes:

    me too.

I'd love to know how they got my no.
    I'm on an o2 contract.
I think there is a regulator for premium rate numbers. Maybe he/she can do something about em.

I've deleted the ones I've received so far, but I think I will start complaining from now on. I don't want my SMS inbox to go the same way as my email inbox..

Too right. More expensive to change your mobile no if it really annoys you.

May be worth (but possible not) ringing O2 to find out if they know anything. It's covered by the (forthcoming) EU regulations/directive.

Vodafone/Eircell used have the habit of sending annu=oying messages informing me of new services I might be interested in. After ringing them and mentioning the relevant bits of the Data Protection Act I now have a nice letter promising me that they'll never send me another SMS ever (even if the world is ending and they can offer me a free space flight out)

Post here or PM me the 5 digit number and I can tell you who it is. This sounds suspiciously like a scam that was run in the UK a year ago. If so not only may you be onto something, but also action can be taken to thwart it.

Have a look at the ODTR website (http://www.odtr.ie) if you want to see who has registered which SMS shortcodes (5 digit numbers).

Its under Number Allocations -> SMS Short Code Allocations.

Those "someone likes you" type things might be from a thing I saw on a postcard where you txt in numbers for 5 people you like, and if they also "like" you you'll both be told (wow!!1). Which is fine and all, except in the small print it says you get charged €2/msg received.....

So presumably you don't get charged because "someone likes you" but only if you partake in it..
