I was up in Donegal for the week (not doing much fishing on account of a snapped top half to my beachcaster - more on that below)! - and wandered into the tackle shop in Letterkenny to find the place filled with Austrians. It turns out that they have sent over most of the likely members of their boat angling team a year early (for the european boat competition due off the Downings in Donegal next year) to suss out what is available, on what rigs, in what conditions etc. and they were busy buying the entire shop! How is that for forward planning !

As for the beachcaster, it was (!) a 12 foot Shakespeare of circa
1982 vintage so it owes me nothing but the top half cracked from
the spigot right up to the first ring and then snapped clear off after I have temporarily repaired it with tape. Would anyone out
there know if I could buy a blank top half to fit, and simply whip
all the (new) rings onto it or if I can buy a complete top half?

    Any help much appreciated...

    Kieran

    I don't actually know...
But some tackle companies can be quite good about this..You may want to try giving Shakespeare a ring in England-I'll try and dig up the URL or phone number
A lot of tackle shops stop repairs until September-maybe Henrys near the North Strand in Dublin.- http://www.fishing.irl.com/
There is also a guy , Bob Moss who may be able to help you, but he is quite expensive-he normally builds his own Rods
    http://www.iol.ie/~bobmoss/
    I'll post up URLs later

You may want to try posting to uk.rec.fishing.sea as well....
