It's not as easy as you might think. There's a BIG difference between tapping on a desk and using sticks on a kit, but if you think you've got good rhythm and co-ordination then I'd suggest you give it a shot. It's what I did..

You interested in joining a Death Metal band Loon? You used to live in Carrick didn't you (or was that someone else?).

    Not really...
I used to do it all the time and then one day I picked up some sticks and it came naturally...
The real problem is finding a place to play/store your kit.

I don't know where you could learn em, but i know there are places where u can rent a drum room for 3 hours cheaply and just mess in there for as long as you can pay for lol.

Sorry Pornapster didn't see this.... I did used to live in Carrick. Not anymore, and I'm actually playing with my own band at the moment.

    On the topic of drums,

For years i am looking for a recording of the Buddy Rich foundation.
It's an anual event that sponsers talent they find on the streets, clubs and so on.
The show includes , the 4 or 5 best drummers of the world from any music style and pressents the newest addition of the best student.
(if you have ever seen the guy drumming on plastic buckets, well thats the show)

if anyone knows where to order this (if possible at all)
or has a copy , in any format whatsoever, i would be very gratefull...

Hey im 16 and i have been getting lessons in galway lately and it is very good i have got alot better very quickly.I think if you tap on tables when you listen to song and if you can pick up the beat it is a great help towards becomeing a drummer.

Great sounds you can get out of em... I started suddenly liking drums a lot where I never really paid a lot of attention to them before like.. only in the last year maybe.
It's even made me really like the instrumental tracks from the Resident Evil soundtrack, by (oh god, I hate him, but look what he DID with the music! :P) Marilyn Manson...

So it would be nice to find somewhere you could just mess around with a drum set for a while to see if you could actually get a grip on it, and get a taste of what you can do :)

I'm sure they used to let you do it in Rocksteady music when it was on Chatham Row in town back when I started doing theory classes... they probably still do in their new(er) place around the corner

You all should learn guitar instead! Sure drummers get more chicks but guitarists...

    mmmmm

    get to......

Damn it! All those wasted years, I best go get a drum kit....

Bah, that rocksteady place is closed...

Well I do already play guitar, and piano... chicks don't seem to go for it anyway tho :P damn them!

Maybe you have to learn to play it 'good' or something... ha! :)

Drummers seem to get more praise that we guitarists do, eg: my drummer is commended on how great he is all the time, while I (who is obviously the better musician) doesn't get so much as a BJ:)ah well YOU SUCK BILL!!!

*cough* Sleeves Mahoney live song www.geocities.com/flacid_ie/song.html *cough*

I think that drummer deserves all the praise he gets.Listen to the ease at which he keeps the rest of the band flowing in intricate 3/4 timing mmmmm hmmm
Anyone who hasnt downloaded this song I think you should. It's good,hendrix/zeppish rock. The guitarist does seem to lose his place in the song occasionally be warned.
Must be his non-rock yellowing -white t shirt he wears at gigs:cool:

My T-shirt is as white as My drummers teeth. And I never lose my place, just that I wanted to keep MY drummer on HIS toes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,529 ✭✭✭zynaps

Heh, did you just say "intricate 3/4 timing"? :P

    Let's see...

    3/4 GO! x .. x .. x | x .. x .. x | x .. x .. x || *bow* *chicks*

    How about 7/8? 5/4? :P

    zynaps

zynaps. cunas.7/8 is HARDLY any thing special. You see its what you do with the timing, he's hardly tapping the ride cymbal to a waltz beat in that song. Try mixing 3/4 4/4 7/8 in one song.

I know, I was just being poxy for the sake of it ;)
It'd be nice to be able to pick up a beat like the different rhythms in a song like unsquare dance, and go at it...

I like drums a lot :) it'd be nice to play em

I'm feeling the love in this room! My turn to give back.....

On another note, I'm a drummer and pretty good at it to but now that I'm finally learning a melody instrument (piano) I must take my hat off to all you people who can pull off chord/key changes and make it look pretty easy! Well done!
