No GAA on Network 2?

Can anyone tell why the GAA is not shown on Network 2 on Sky Digital? It says that the program starts at 7.00pm. The Dublin V Donegal match was not on yesterday and the hurling and football is not on it today! This is most annoying and an explanation would be great.

It's because the GAA are greedy buggers who won't allow RTE to broadcast the games on satellite because they have sold the transmission rights to Setanta Sport and are worried that people in the UK will obtain Irish subscription cards instead of Setanta Subscriptions.

Personally, it suits me fine as it stops me from accidentally switching on the rubbish! :D

The GAA sold the rights to Setanta who broadcast the games to pubs in the UK and more recently as pay-per-view on Sky Digital.

The GAA now does not want the games to be shown on Network 2 in case the signal is pirated in the UK and therefore Setanta would lose revenue.

The irony is that the Setanta pay-per-view is not available to viewers in the Republic, and the coverage on Network 2 is not available, so Irish viewers are being denied the option of watching the games on digital TV.

Basically it's a huge mess, and no one seems to know when it will be resolved.

    Hi,
Sky are showing it because the G.A.A won't allow sky to show it on Net2 as said before, Sometimes last year i think a few matches were shown on the BBC on Sky, Basicaly the G.A.A should change their name to £.$.€ .

    Now listen closely!

Sky have zero involvement in this ameteurs dispute.

Setanta realised (slowly) that when RTE launched on Astra via Sky that the cash cow they gladly milk could suddenly go tits up.

Setanta not only buy the rights to broadcast GAA but they also had to buy the rights to re-broadcast RTE's GAA programming including the live broadcast which is "The Game on Sunday" i think.

Setanta simply threatened the GAA that their contract would be void if RTE were broadcasting the game directly to English homes for free which is true but this is not what RTE are doing.

Setanta demanded that the GAA stop RTE broadcasting RTE's programming on DTH, so that Setanta could continue broadcasting RTE's programmig in PPV form.

Setanta were within their rights to ask the GAA to do so, the GAA were not and RTE were fools to comply.

A series of idiots who cant even interpret their own contracts.

so much for that pile of **** Sky call a customer magazine telling us we can watch the GAA on Sky from August 11th. then again they have also said we can watch France 2 and Nile TV via other channels which is also a load of rubbish. all parties involved in this GAA blockage should be shot

I got an email from Feedback @BBC NI and the guy said that "We are hoping that it is about to change soon and BBC can then show the games as listed for BBC NI"This was sent to me last week

Good work Seano. It will be interesting to see if BBC2NI get to show GAA games on Sky. I would imagine it would be blocked in ROI though unless RTE can show the coverage too, which they really should've sorted out by now.

I would have imagined it to be handier for UK ppl to get the Setanta season ticket rather than the hassle of getting an ROI sub organised.

I saw the crap in the mag that Mossy is referring to. God of almighty, it is so silly, I almost roffled!:D
