Deleting in Dos

If you delete a file in DOS where does it go? Sure as hell not to the recycling bin. More importantly how does one get a deleted file back after it's been deleted in DOS? I accidently deleted an important doc file via a batch file and need to recover it :(

    Any ideas how?

When files get deleted in DOS, they aren't actually deleted. They are flagged by the OS as having been deleted, and the space is made available for other files and programs.

Files can be undeleted. Look for an undelete program on the web. Take care, though - if you download and install the program onto the same drive as the deleted file, there is a very strong chance that your deleted file will be overwritten.

If you have a second drive/partition, download and install the undelete program to it.

Your best bet is a small standalone DOS or Windows program that doesn't have sh1tloads of DLLs and baggage with it.

Try download.com or tucows for starters.....
