If you're from Cork, and have visited the PRC site, answer me this:

Are the chaps running it laughing with you, or at you?
    Are you sure?

It's certainly not a celebration of Cork's culture and traditions.

I particularly loath the mockery of the speech patterns of the urban poor, and the way in which the dialect is used to celebrate antisocial behaviour. Because people who talk like dat act like dis, see?

"They're just like me, mum". Arse. They're laughing at you, more like.

I think that entire site is one elaborate troll.

    Never. It's rubbish.

Who posts on the boards of it ?

Never. Bunch of knackers. (Although I did offer to host it a while back when they ran out of steam. :)

the people who post using the dialect in question certainly arn't the ppl who speak it naturally. And it is jus plain mockery of the "urban poor".
but i'm guilty of that sometimes i must admit.

Yes, quite. In fact one might even go so far as to say that these ignorant chaps are making an utter mockery out of what true Corkonians hold dear; this is simply awful!

Jesus f*cking christ, loosen up eh? There's just as big a market for a site like PRC as there is for a site celebrating Cork's "culture and traditions", maybe even more so. It's just getting to a ridiculous level of political correctness if you're going to start slagging them off for using Cork slang that may or may not be associated with 'poorer classes', Jesus. Besides, the site actually boasts some interesting off-the-wall Cork related arcticles and promotes local music, it can't be all bad eh 'chaps'? Oh, and yes - Charlie Wolfe is an utter tosspot, I'm afraid.

I never use it - think it's a load of crap.
Nice idea but it went wrong somewhere along the way.

The existence of a potential market, Mr Gecko, does not make the marketing of a thing moral. Child pornography, for example.

I sense that you are a white, male, christian and of middle class or farming stock, with the prospect of a couple of years of higher education before you. What the hell do you know about opression?

    These points I concede.

What kind of idiot compares Child pornography with a semi-humourous regional website?

    Oh, right, I see...

Whatever other arguments you have (I think they've already been addressed by Mr. Logic and Mr. Shinji respectively), you should retract that one...

    Alo.

You're belittling the people you're trying to defend every time you post. It's so immoral to use widely accepted Cork slang! We should help the poor individuals who use this language to broaden their minds by exposing them to great literature!

Yeah mate, you've got it in one. I suppose you're a black Jewish one legged hobo who campaigns endlessly for feminist rights? Set my people free etc.

I'd lock this if it wasn't so much fun. I'm a bit suspicious of the mod gathering though, I hope we're not going to turn Cork into a virtual battleground?

Oh, and by the way, you're all talking rubbish. Yes, even you boss. :)

Cripes, you settle down for a little bit of trolling amongst your own people -- we make our own fun around here -- and all of a sudden the thought police arrive from forn' parts.

    Sheesh.

I do withdraw the 'child porn' crack, though: I should have thought of another example before I emerged from under the bridge.

    Everybody happy now?

I think some of the stuff there is hilarious, in a very "Cork" way. Some of the "accents", I feel, are "enforced".

Errah, it's fierce hit and miss. The Kinsale Road roundabout article is one, it was -> this <- much short of being a classic. But they screwed it up by going overboard. It's the forum puts me off though, it's just a joke. I genuinely hate to think of non-PROC folk reading it.

I've only ever met one guy who liked it, and he was an American. You gotta feel sorry for 'em, eh? (He comes here too, so sorry man.)

Concerning the PRC site itself, it was made by Cork people, infact i was at some shin dig before where someone pointed out some of the persons who was involved with the site.

The PROC people go drinking every saturday night and visit some of the "classic" cork pubs.
