haven't had much of a chance to do fishing-had an op last week..
    recently caught doggies in rosslare
flats and a small bass on the coombe (near carnesore pt, the windfarm is well visible)
Going out tonight from bullock harbour- I have the usual hokais, feathers, fishhead+jellys.. will probably tip with rag if a friend gets any..

I suppose pollack, codling, mackerel are the targets..!?!

Next week on acharter from kilmore-we are going to target tope for a while-the probably drift for pollack/cod, and maybe a quick bit of spinning for bass near the beaches of the saltees..
any tips boat fishing for tope, eg uptide/downtide etc etc use a flapper I assume??
may have some photos I can post -have to get film developed first..

Well 3 of us went out from bulloch-plenty of small (as in small ) pollack on the drift...
I changed my weight to a large flourescent pirk, and caught doubles of cod and then pollack on the hokai-fish can be nosy bastards...

Well I'm offf in the morning out of Kilmore Quay (charter is with Dick Hayes-who is good - and a really nice guy to boot..)
We willl have a pool of 2 euros each for each of these categories
    First Fish
    Biggest Tope
    Biggest other fish
    Most fish
    Most species..

Most tope is a bit optimistic...
    (btw mackerel don't count..)

Will have to remember to get my bananas and Mars Bars in the morning :)
If I'm back in Dublin Saturday I'll go to the boards bash in SPY..

Ok, I have not got a huge interest for angling, but what I am looking for is people like yourself that may have a few outings in a boat, who would be willing to drop me off so I can go snorkelling, explore the environment here a bit more, accustom myself to it, then go spear some fish for dinner, bass being my favourite.

My catches this year were a 1.4Kilo Sea Bass for 50cm, 3.5Kilo's of Black Mullet, some spider crab and 2.7Kilo's of Pollack.

I've been practising this in France every summer for the past 8 years and finally bought all my gear back with me, although forgot my spear gun!

I've been scuba diving and snorkelling around hook head in wexford and around dalkey island so have a small idea of what it's like down there and boy oh boy do I wish I had my spear with me when I did. Anyway, if there are any boat outings, I would much appreciate being dropped off and picked up after you've finished doing your thing :)

I'll buy you a few beers/mars bars/banana's/petrol whatever's needed in return of course and if the days catches are fruitful I'm always willing to share a big catch :D

My record was a 4.8 Kilo Sea bass for 71cm taken two years back :)

And if anyone's travelling to Brittany France during the summer months I'd only be too happy to return the favour.

    Hi
Went on that trip to kilmore on Thursday..
To answer tactical anni first, I'd have no objections to leaving you out near the saltees or one of the reefs, but we generally fish on the drift, so the boat may be miles away from you. Our skipper would have to agree, as would the other charter peeps..
There are a lot of safety considerations, and I think there needs to be a boat above the divers...

Anyway the fishing went well, 15 different species, I got 9...
Racked up the species when I realised I was getting a lot of taps on my 4/0-6/0 baited hokkais, but no fish..
scaled down to tipped shrimp rigs (peeler, mackerel skin and squid) and started getting the wrasse, gurnard, pouting etc.
Lost 2 BIG fish (probably a big ballan wrasse) on this, so I'm going to make my own in future...
Best fish was a nice LING
Pollack were going mad for Black Muppets tipped with Mackerel..
I got the most species by 9-8.. A stupid sand dab had its whole head impaled on a big pirk-whole squid combo...:)

No Tope, in the end didn't fish for them
    loads of mackerel around...

I have a safety bouy attached to me to signal there is a diver in the water :)
