If this is on the wrong board, sorry.

If you could choose which gender you could be, which would you choose and why?

I would be female because I think they have it easy compared to men. Thats just my opinion though

    What are the options again?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Ruaidhri

that IS a difficult question. First off you'd need to experiance a life time of both to make an informed decision.
you also have to factor social and political issues into account. and even then there is a quality of life question also.
    so personally i think it's a bulls**t question.(i'm gonna say be a man anyway cause that's all i know)

I'd stick with what I am.

Tell you this - Being female, I get to do the 'lad' thing and it normally gets a laugh. So I get the best of both worlds, I can be a girlie girl if I want and paint my nails and ensure my shoes and my handbag match, or I can be a laddish girl if I want and scratch myself in public and belch loudly when I drink pints of beer and use the word 'cúnt' in common conversation as though it's going out of fashion, either way people accept me.

It's an entirely different story though if a heterosexual bloke decides he wants to behave in an effeminate fashion... :p

    it works for mills :)

Id probably stick with being a bloke. However, the option of being able to pull on a miniskirt, throw on a bit fo warpaint and instantly looking more attractive to the opposite sex is not to be sniffed at. Women have it easy....well, apart from that childbirth thing that they moan about.

Having never experienced being female I can't say which gender I'd prefer. I enjoy being male though.

IMO the only people who can give a true answer to this question are transexuals and they've spent thousands of quids to change gender.

In conclusion, you are the gender you are in your head. And if a person's not happy with that then maybe they're not the gender they think they are.

    Agree 100% with MAJD.

I can be girly girl and do my hair all curly and wear a dress and shock everyone (in a good way). Or I can go play games on a LAN and mod my PC/case and shock everyone (again, in a good way).

    Plus, we have boobies.

    Ah yes...

    ...boobies...

/me stares at Majd's and Konekos boobies.

    Hmmm powerful arguments.

in which direction of the horizon are these boobies located precisely?

im happy as a man, its very hard to answer the question since you dont know what youre getting into. on the other hand, experiencing multiple orgasms has its advantage.

    mmmmmmm

    Boobies......

Anyway, I like being a guy - no point in complaining!

Much happier now than before the op.

But seriously, it's hard to say if you've only experienced being of one gender. Wouldn't want to swap though, really.

    And as for boobies.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭phaxx

I'm happy the way I am, but given the chance to, er, magically turn female for a week or three I'd jump at it. :)

don't go upsetting the nerds by mentioning women boobies, the only ones they normally see is their own.

i love the way threads eventually degrade into conversations about boobies......

Yeah, because you know one injection makes such an enormous difference to something the size of a football passing through a space that just... well... isn't that size.

If I ever have kids, it'll be as nature intended.

    I like chocolate.

Man, cos i couldnt be arsed to shave under my arms, chest, legs and bush every or everyother week whereas being male i dont have all that maintenance. I can look like Harry Henderson an no one says poop.

And i can piss standing up, dont have to go through pain of labour Oooooooouuuuccccccccccccchhhhhhhhh, so i'll remain an animal that produces gametes (spermatozoa) that can fertilize female gametes (ova) or in other words a person who belongs to the sex that cannot have babies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,761 ✭✭✭✭Winters

seeing as though i have always been the same sex i cannot comment on what it would be like to be the other sex.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 829 ✭✭✭McGinty

Whilst I say yes to being a woman, it p**sses me off to hear some comments about it being easier to be a woman. Why is that so?

I think each sex has its good points and bad points. Each has there own set of problems. I don't believe it is easier to be a woman nor easier to be a man. And by the daft comments re: childbirth, it is obvious to me none of you have experienced it. Again with child birth some woman have it easy, some don't and as for having an epidural, one millimetre out of position and you are paralysed for life.

On a lighter note though, it is great fun being a woman, so I will stick with what I know, the ability to be girlie, girlie or do ladish things with the ability to be mutli orgasmic, excelleeeeeeent.

Lad because we dont have to worry bout make up, hair, etc.

And the oppsoite sex has all the good features!!eg boobies!

And in general(i wonder how many pi**ed off responses ill get to this:D ) men are better at sport and games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,446 ✭✭✭bugler

Periods? Childbirth? The whole expectancy to make an effort etc?

These are things that the majority of women endure. As it has been stated repeatedly in this thread, noone can really give an objective answer, but the above are my reasons for liking my masculinity. That and quick, no frills masturbation.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

Actually, I reckon it'd be cool if we could change gender at will. Iain M Banks' Culture novels feature a society where you can change your gender over the course of a month or so just by flicking a few hormonal switches, and it's just taken for granted that people will change over several times during their lives.

Personally, I'd find that idea very interesting - I'm a big believer in the whole "my body is the meat and machine that carries me around" concept, and being able to switch chassis at will would be fascinating.

Women get to píss at point blank range.

Me have to contend with morning erections and the whole standing up/range issue when relieveing themselves....

And women still bítch on aout the toilet seat.

Course, we get off over shampoo ads :)

I dunno, I don't know if I could deal with being a man. I was watching that Channel 4 documentary 'Make me a Man', following the sex change processes of four people born as females.

One of the people, (Lee, I think he was called), said that a fortnight after his first testosterone hormone injection he went out for dinner to a nice restaurant, and all he could see was tits. He said he couldn't focus on anything else, just tits tits tits.

I roffled heartily at that, and then thought 'I'd far rather be a woman, because I actually couldn't deal with the notion of thinking about sex as often as a man does.' Jesus, I'd get nothing done!!!

That was pretty wierd, a lesbian couple that wanted to become a gay couple. But hey, that's all part of the wonderful world that we live in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,099 ✭✭✭✭WhiteWashMan

well, as the bloodhound gang said....

    HURRAY FOR BOOBIES!

of course, i think if i was a woman id end up lesbian becuase quiet frankly, they are wonderful to play with.
so i think i would stay a bloke.
but it would be cool to experiment all the stuf a woman goes through.
you know the exciting stuff like dealing with premature ejaculation, the infamous 'its never happened before', etc etc etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Dunno about that not thinking logically thing either...

    As good as it gets
How do you write women so well.
I think of a man, then I take away reason and accountability.

    Pretty much says it all....

I must reiterate, I still love boobies..

I like your way of thinking Amp:p I know I have PMT atleast 30-31 days every month and that feb just wrecks my hormones the way its shorter.
Whatever taste bad taste in shoes SOME women MAY have at least we know black shoes and white socks dont go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Ye I read that somewhere last week. Although Black shoes, white socks, ala Britney Spears in that school uniform is well good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,838 ✭✭✭DapperGent

I'm kinda happy being a bloke so I probably wouldn't change though Iain M. Bank's multiple sex changing mentioned by Shinji would be nice. I would like to have a clitoris though I reckon it'd be great fun to fiddle with.

everytime a man says its Easier to be a woman...it just proves once again that men know nothing about women, and also that they have been spending too much time in la la land...wake up guys.

Having said that, I would stay who I am in this life, but if I had a choice in a second life, I would choose to be different just to see how the other side really does live.

    ;)

I'd choose male as … lets be honest here lads, the women for once are right … we do have the easier role in life!

After all, being contrary, duplicitous, unreasonable, irrational, irresponsible, manipulative and unaccountable for your actions on a 24 hour basis must expend a lot of energy and I for one am happy to leave it to them.

    Well done!
