What to do with 252?

So, 252 kHz has been dead for two weeks now. What does anyone think is the likely use for this frequency?

Chris Cary is making a pitch for the return of Radio Nova on 252, meanwhile Helen Shaw told me in an email that her preference would be a relay of RTÉ Radio 1.

Others on the MediaUK forums insisted that Oneword the digital speech station would go on 252 and others still that it would be used for bible bashers...

I'd prefer to see Radio Nova or maybe Radio 1 on 252.

Personally in this digital age, the lowest quality radio that I listen to is FM. If I really want to listen to a radio show that can't be picked up locally then I either make sure I'm home, or record it, either way it's through the Sky box.

Anyway for ex-pats who are on the move I suppose a relay of RTÉ Radio 1 is the best use that it could be put to.

As a man in van I'd like a relay of Five Live (there I said it again!).
Failing that then something else with a whit of intelligence. Certainly not the God-Squad.

Would 252 cover GB better than Tullamore's mw does?
If so it's logical to switch off the latter and use 252.

I'd like to have Nova back on FM nationwide-sheer bliss:)
Clutter free and with as many four plays as they can muster.

Agreed. In any case, with RTE receiving state funding, would this be tantamount to the State "endowing" a religion?

I know a relay of RTE Radio 1 on LW252 would be great for ex-pats in the UK, but it wouldn't do much to extend our choice in Ireland.

Personally I love the idea of Nova coming back, but I can imagine Chris Carey having problems being accepted by the "powers-that-be".

Failing that, how about Radio Caroline ?

Radio Caroline would be a good choice but as someone who is already listening to them via a local FM relay I can tell you they would'nt have the money to rent the transmitter and power it.

You can sponser individual shows, which is a good indicator of the state of thier finances!

I wouldn't like to see it go to a former pirate. Because I find that if pirates go legal, they then become not quite the station they used to be. They loose some of their mystique :)

No, I'd be happy with something like NewsTalk 106 on LW (with a re-vamped schedule I must add) making it nation-wide news and sport station, or 5 Live.

All I want is to listen is sport on 5 Live on a decent wavelength where florescent lights and a room full of PC's cant fiddle at the signal. :)

Yes, that would be nice. In Athlone I've got both 909 and 693 on my presets on my car radio. It depends on the atmosphere or on how much 612 is overspilling as to which is better. And when I'm in the SouthWest (of Ireland) 990 is sometimes beter.

Now up here in Northern Scandinavia, I can't even get the World Service or any other English language channels. Though I do have BBC World and a few other English-language TV channels in the Hotel.

I'm new to Radio Caroline and have only listened it to a few times on Astra1 through my PC. Still don't see what the fuss is about. It's not that good, is it! Wierd to think they broadcasted from an ex-trawler out at sea!

I still wish Teamtalk was there as it was better than nothing. 5 Live would be ideal but won't happen. So I vote Radio Nova or Radio Caroline (better than R1), or a completely new channel altogether (non religious)!

Caroline have'nt been at sea in years! They have studios in Maidstone, Kent and have the "Me Amigo" (I think) which they are restoring presumbly not to take to sea with but simply as a tourist attraction to make a few bob.
