Personal ads... where?

I've just about summoned up the courage to go ahead and place a personal ad - but I'm having a bit of trouble deciding where to post it. As far as I can tell, my only options are Hot Press, In Dublin and er... the Evening Herald. Does anyone here have any suggestions of an alternate place to publish a personal ad?

I think you can do it on Teletext too.. Aertel does have it flash on the front page sometimes.. i think the page was 710 or something like that...

Does anybody actually meet or start relationships with people they meet from personals. Seems a bit weird to me. I'd be more fond of the auld make a drunken move while out on the piss tbh.

That rsvp thing.. just checked it out.. its free to register but if you want to reply to someone you need to be a paying subscriber... Still if you just post your own bio you might get someone who is paying click you.. I registered for the craic... Im a little bored right now.

it's surprising that the first page contains all the lookers and the second ...starts missing pictures :)
(didn't know Irish girls could look that well :) )

Yeah i saw that... unless you have to pay to see the other pics... but doubt it... a few manufactured pics i would imagine!

Whats not right about it? I placed an ad a good while ago for the craic. Got a reply from this girl and we email for a while. Then exchanged numbers, then texted, then talked and soon decided to meet up. Wasnt disappointing, wasnt weird, had a great laugh. We've met up loads of times since and i've gone down to her house for weekends and stuff...we're great friends and get on really well.

So there's nothing "not right" about it...

Another good site to post your ad which is failry cheap is http://www.irishsinglesonline.ie. It was about five pounds in Irish money per month. I went out with one guy for nearly a year through it and met my current boyfriend through it. I don't see what the problem is with online dating / personal ads, its another way of meeting people, espcially if you're like me and don't like the pub/club scene or live in a town full of idiots. I am choosy about my men.

If a person is careful and takes it easy and keeps an open mind it can work out very well. Oh and the old adage of meeting only weirdos is crap, because you can meet weirdos anywhere and the Internet is an extention of society.

The only thing I would say about using the Evening Herald is the cost of the phone calls, your phone bill will be enormous after checking out replies or replying to people via their match box. Another website is http://www.match.com although its a lot more expensive and asks lots of crappy americanised questions. I haven't used RSVP so I can't comment but there are loads to choose from.

If that was the only argument against using personals, then I doubt if anyone on Boards could make it with a straight face :D

:D That ad i placed yesterday for the craic, got an email telling me i have a message there but of course i have to be a premium member to get it!!! So what are the chances its some hot girl? Unlikely... what are the chances its a welcome message designed to get me to pay up? VERY likely.. and the chances i will do that? Not bloody likely!!

Dont like the way that site works!
