    Hi,

Has anyone expierence of setting their pc up for use with an remote control , eg for control of winamp.

I have come across irman (http://shop.mensys.nl/catalogue/mns_IRMAN.html) which seems to do the trick for 30E. Anyone use this or something like it?

There are some TV cards that come with infrared receivers, whether these could be used to control winamp and the like I don't know.

I have a Haupaugge Win TV Theatre with remote, I use it for controlling the TV, WinDVD player and it can easily be configured
to use any application that can respond to keypresses.

It uses a small program called IRRemote, which takes the buttons
you press on the infra-red remote and translates them to key presses. The button mappings and corresponding keys are stored in an Ini file, which you can modify and add applications to to your hearts content.

    Works superbly.

    Build one of these: http://www.tweakhardware.com/guide/remote/

Cheap, easy if you have a little experience soldering, and it works well. Software that works with it is listed on the bottom of that page, and you can set it up to do pretty much anything.

I built one of these for about 5 euro, and use it to control winamp, and any other windows function. For example I set it up with realmagic dvd station so I could use my pc as a proper dvd player.

You know of places in ireland that would stock most of the components required? I use radionics usually but they are lacking alot of the parts i'd have to get the parts drip feeded to me - in which case the shipping would cost more than the stuff :)

    Peats had all the parts.

The only part I had to do a bit of checking on was the actual reciever module itself, but its all explained in this thread..

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37240

Heres the link to the component itself:

All the other parts are extremely standard, just a diode, simple regulator, a resistor and 2 caps.

The one thing tho i don't seem to be able to see on peats is the resistor, am i blind?
