Very Basic AVI Editor

I've got a very large AVI (actually three of them) that I'm looking to rejoin and then breakup again so that they'll fit nicely on a few CD's. So might anyone here be able to suggest a fairly basic AVI/MPG editor that allows one to join/cut-up movies? Free/Shareware being another requirement, of course ;)

TMPGEnc is a very good program for this.

BTW, If you are creating VCD's, then make sure the DVD player you intend to play them on is compatible. Go to http://www.vcdhelp.com/ to see if it is. You may need to buy certain CD-R's/RW's in some cases.

Virtual dub acn be used for breaking up an Avi..
