I’ve noticed recently, on occasions when RTE Radio 1 was splitting their Mediumwave and FM for sports coverage etc (i.e. with sports coverage on MW/AM only, such as Cork Vs Mayo last Monday) that the Cork MW transmitter was carrying the FM version instead! Listeners (that is if they realised the problem) had to retune to the national 567kHz, which is not strong in the Cork area to hear these programmes. Same thing happened last night with the coverage of athletics (Sonia O’Sullivan running in the 10000m) .

Ah, the spectre of RTE Radio Cork lives on...

PS (And one for the satellite forum possibly), did Sky ever get round to putting the FM version of Radio 1 (available via Other Channels) onto the EPG?

Maybe Sky Digital should have a RTE Radio 1 MW and RTE Radio 1 FM channel listing on the EPG.. only problem is God only knows what Channel they would put it on... does seem a mess that Radio 1 is on 892 and 2FM and the others start from 914... surely sky could have re-jigged things around abit???

SORRY - FORGOT... That would be TOOOOO Easy!!!!!!!!

I notice today (Friday) that the 729kHz transmitter in Cork is now once again carrying the MediumWave variant when RTE Radio 1 splits its FM and MW. (At 5PM today the showjumping continued for a while on MW and 5-7 live starting on FM only)

Whilst I am on the subject of this 729kHz Medium Wave transmitter, RTE ought to try and improve its reliability. A friend of mine tells me that on the Sunday before last, the audio on Radio 1's Cork MW 729kHz went dead for several hours and its not the first time it has happened in recent months!
