New Software

Sky have updated the Digibox software. Mine now has software version 3.0.11*. (Old software was 2.8*).

    Ckeck yours - Services, 4, 5.

Having read some of the comments over on Digital Spy the best way to get the software if you still have the old one is to put your box in standby, then unplug it for 10-20 seconds. When I did this the box came back on for a second, then all the lights went out for about 10 seconds, then the box went back to standby. When I turned it back on it had 'searching for listings', then went to channel 998.

When I re-checked, new software was installed.

Some of the guys on Digital Spy have found that doing a forced download of software will only reload the old software, so there is no point in doing this. If your software is still old, you should wait as Sky apparently send software according to make, and so yours may not yet be broadcast. Mine is a Grundig, and others with Panasonic and Pace boxes have also got the software. Sony digiboxes, apparently, are not yet updated.

Major changes reported include faster browsing of channels, faster channel changing (not sure on this one myself), and a low-battery indicator that appears when your remote batteries are running low.

The sony boxes are always updated last for some reason.

My Grundig has been updated but the picture quality seems to have deteriorated. Could this be linked or just a coincidence?

My 2 Panasonic boxes and a Pace 2400 have been upgraded. Initially I thought they werent, though pnplugging thrm, and plugging them back got the box to reboot on the new software. :) As with others, my Sony 760 hasnt been upgraded yet. It took a few weeks the last time there was an update for the Sony to get it. :(

I havent checked my version in the last week but while changing channels yesterday I got the 'low battery' meesage on screen.

Oh dear, this is going to be annoying...

The Battery indicator is maddening. It will pop up with a screen saying something like "Your batteries are about to run out, replace them within the next couple of days" My advice is to change them there and then. Because that will pop up, and take up the most of the screen, like an 08 error message, every three minutes or so if you channel hop as often as me!

Also, a new icon in the search and scan banner beside the favourites tick will also appear, indicating power shortage in the remote.

    Nifty, but highly annoying.

i hope i don't get this latest update now. there's already enough crap clogging up the screen as it is

It sounds like another horrible sky "Improvement" for their idiotboxes. Your remote batteries etc

"Uck foff" sky and stop annoying us with more logos.

The battery indicator on the search and scan banner is fine by me. Sufficient, small and discrete, but, my, that whopping error message. Got to go. It didn't have get on my títs yesterday....

Maybe they'll start selling mains adapters for Digibox remotes now, or Plutonium batteries...!

I lack any real knowledge on Sky but i can only assume that the updates are carried in an encrypted DVB sub data stream and this applies to all channels on Sky (over all TP's..hmm).

I encountered the "low battery" BSD yesterday and it was not welcome so i popped the batteries out of my sisters electric toothbrush so my problem was cured..hehe.

Going back to the battery message. I got that over the weekend as well. Conspiracy to up the sales of batteries I think! Otherwise remote was working at normal speed. I've noticed on both digiboxes since the weekend that when changing radio channels it takes a while for the programme information to come up.You can speed this up by pressing back up.Didn't have to do this before though. Also I have favourites set on UK box . Even though favourites are set I have to go into the menu and then back out again before they'll work. This latest software upgrade seems to have *u**** up a few things? ANyone got similar story?

the new software did not fix the bug where the digibox skips to the interactive channel you used last. its really annoying.Have not had the new remote battery message yet.

Still have the old software on my silver Grundig. Sounds like I should be grateful.

still no change here either :) . maybe they have stopped rolling it out after some complaints about battery reminders

    Software upgrade reaches Sky Digiboxes
Sky has sent out an over-the-air software upgrade to Digiboxes, although it seems only Pace and Panasonic boxes initially received the upgrade. Some viewers with Sony and Amstrad boxes are still waiting. So what's in the upgrade? There are onscreen reminders about low remote control battery power, new telephone numbers in the Services menu and additional European languages in the Audio/Language menu. Sky is reported to have said that boxes which have not yet been upgraded will be done so by the end of this week. [Aug 11]

out of curiosity, why don't Sky upgrade all box's at the same time

This supposedly happens just in case there are any major bugs in the software that they might have missed. If they only release to certain boxes the can use those customers as a sort of beta test group.

The Sony box is almost always last as I think it has a slightly different chip set.

i would have thought that they'd have in house boxes for that sort of thing

Got the new update tonight (black Grundig box) but had to force an update to get it - a reboot didn't work....amazingly no "low battery" warnings (yet!) and so far it hasn't crashed yet but I guess time will tell

I suppose they do, but you will always find problem during the introduction of new software, so it is probably better to try out the new stuff on a subset first.
